Hi all,

I'm trying to plan out my journey from Mumbai and
I want to book tickets while I'm still in the UK.

Is this possible? I try to register with IRCTC but I don't have
an indian address or telephone number yet.

Any help would be great.

You don't need a Indian Address Rich or a Indian telephone number. Just indicate on the form you are from abroad.
The dang thing will still insist on a Indian pin number though (postcode) so use any 6 digit number, or this one, for a place in Goa (Palolem) 403702.
When you get to the payment stage you will need the citibank gateway for foreign cards.

You can also book tickets via cleartrip usually (though there have been reports of problems recently) but I personally find this site easier to navigate, so give it a try.

Please get back to us if you have further problems there are many train gurus here on IM.

My apologies I now see that the game has changed and you do need a Indian mobile number which will be verified (well done IR for making things even more difficult for the foreign user)so I suggest using the cleartrip option unless someone has a work around for this Indian mobile phone malarky

Putting up a Indian ph no can be necessary while registration but no cross checking is done by IR to verify it.
Just put up a fake no (shouldnt match with any personal mobile no) like 9876543210 ( Am sure no one would have this no)
Register your account.
Come to India. Get a Indian sim card with life time validity. Change the Mobile No. in IRCTC to the same. Use the sim card while being in India and Keep it back in the purse when you go back. :-D

I have been an IRCTC user for quite some time now. I have also created 2 accounts recently (in the last 2-3 weeks).
No verification has taken place as of yet.
When one creates the accounts, the temporary password just gets mailed to your registered e-mail ID. No involvement of the contact number.

IRCTC isnt gonna take any harsh steps these days as they got to face a tough challenge with the upcoming CRIS Website. Not even the bank people call up these days when I place a request for a cheque to be dishonoured.
:-D

Let IRCTC live in peace then! :-)

I registered with IRCTC about 2 weeks ago. I had no problem with the registration but I had problem with my credit card. When I tried logging in again about 2 days ago, IRCTC required extra registration details, namely my Indian mobile number. I put fake Indian number there. To complete the re-registration, they required verification codes which were to be sent to my email AND my fake Indian number. Obviously i could not get the verification code and i am unable to register with IRCTC.

Yesterday I send an e-mail to the IRCTC about this subject and got this answer

Quote:
Dear Customer,

We have forwarded your request to the concerned department. You will be receiving the same shortly.

My IRTC Bookings are also now in Limbo, or Hindu equivalent, the new and retrospective requirement for an Indian mobile number have left me unable to access my account. I have emailed customer care: care@irctc.co.in and hope too that something will be worked out. Please let us know how you are going with this. Cheers.

I gave the verification code I received in my email to irctc as requested. I used this same code for the mobile verification code but they said that the code is wrong. So the codes sent to the email and phone are different.

Hmm weird I can only imagine that they are relying on third party websites to cater for the foreign tourist.

Same here, I cannot register because they ask for a mobile code, sent to my fake indian number...
And cleartrip is also out of order it seems... Pitty that there is no airport in Hampi, life would be easier.
