Hi all,

I am hoping to travel on train 12081 JAN SHATABDI from Ernakulam Town to Trivandrum Ctrl tomorrow, though I haven't yet got a reservation. The train is showing as "Charting Done", though for the following days there are many seats available, which leads me to believe that tomorrow may also have available seats. Will it be possible to show up at the station tomorrow and buy a ticket? Is there a way to get tickets for Jan Shatabdi, or to check availability, after charting is done?

Also, according to indiarailinfo.com this train carries a SLR class coach at either end, is it possible to travel in those coaches on an unreserved ticket?

Cheers

Ed

If seats are available you can buy a General ticket, get into the train and pay the difference in fare to the TTE to travel. The train will have both AC and Non AC options. The fare however won't be different. So better book now and travel.

The SLR is a Luggage car, so travel is allowed in that.

For trains departing on and before 12:00 am (IST), the chart is prepared the previous day. I do not think ERS has a 'Current' Reservation Counter. Thus it would not be possible for you to take a confirmed ticket. (Even WL'ed is also not possible as Chart has already been prepared)
SLR are Luggage Coaches and one is not allowed to travel in it. (There are however some trains which has combined SLR cum Pantry cum General sitting.

@Dipyaman: I think you meant 12 pm (noon)

@Ed: As per IRCTC, this train is full up for tomorrow's journey (I presume you're talking about the JS leaving at around 9:45 from Ernakulam)

@Narendra: The SLR of Janshatabdis are also reserved, with tickets being issued for travel in the (seating) portion of the coach. So I don't think it's possible to travel in them with a UR ticket.

Yes it was noon.

PS:- When you speak of sitting arrangement in non ac class it has to be 2S which is not the same as SLR.
SLR are luggage coaches where travelling is not allowed. However this train does has 14-2S Classes. The original blogger can purchase the unreserved ticket for this train and if seat is available, he can pay the difference in fare.

Following is the coach composition for this train:
LOCO--SLR--D1 to D14--C1--C2--C3--SL

The critical word got missed, don't know how. And Yes, SLR coaches may have seating in half of the coach for Ladies etc, where you can travel on a reserved ticket. The SLR part however can't have people travelling.

Thanks for the replies.

No problems at all, rocked up at ernakulam tn ten minutes before the train and got our tickets. The train emptied at ernakulam town, seemed to be about 2/3 full coming into the station and 1/4 full after it. So no worries getting tickets for this train on the platform.

For further info, the tickets are sold at the "booking office" counter on platform 1 and are a specific Jan shatabdi unreserved ticket: identical to a general unreserved ticket but with "2SJan Shatabdi" under class instead of "II"

Those are found in the local trains, not in Janshatabdis. Some SLR are also termed as SLRD (having reserved seats for disabled persons)
