??? Bundi to Chittaurgarh by train (AM), fort, train to Udaipur (PM)

Hi, I see everyone recommending a taxi from Bundi via Chittaurgarh Fort and on to Udaipur, but I saw that there are some handy train options -- namely,

Haldighati Pass, depart BUNDI 07:21 AM, arrive CHITTAURGARH 10:35 AM

OR

DEHRADUN EXPRESS, depart BUNDI at 09:38, arrive CHITTAURGARH at 12:05PM.

It seems like the first train would give you plenty of time to tour the fort before leaving on the Udaipur City Express (4:40PM), or the second train would work if you were taking the Ali Udz Express at 7:15PM.

However, since taxi seems to be so popular, I'm wondering if these trains run chronically late, thereby screwing up people's day at the fort? Advice appreciated!

(I was thinking to avoid the taxi hire because since you have to pay for a return fare, it would be something like Rs7000, no??)

There have been other members posting re this in previous years, and they have managed to do it by train. There are a couple of threads at the bottom of the page you might like to look at too.

Even if the train was a couple of hours late you would still have time to look the fort and return. Take an autorickshaw there and have it stay with you because there are areas where you can drive around up there and it would be handy for you. It can then bring you back to the railway station.

The earlier train would be the one I would go for, in case it is a bit late.
