Break - Onward Journey
Break - Onward Journey
hi
I am new to this site.
I ahve doubt. I have to go from Kanpur to Visakhapatnam. But there are no direct trains. Or rather i want to take Rajdhani from Kanpur to Bhubaneswar and then another train(most probably East Coast) from there to Visakhapatnam.
What is the method by which we pay the fare for Kanpur to Vizag(telescopic) but book two tickets.
I feel it is not break journey as i am not stopping for more than 3 hrs at BBS.
So what is the term used for this kind of journey and can such a booking be done online via e-ticket

Dear Pavan,
Telescopic Benefit is NOT allowed, if one of the trains happens to be a Rajadhani Express (or) Shatabdi Express (or) jan Shatabdi Express (or) Garib Rath Express.
======
Hence, you must take two tickets - if you select Rajadhani for CNB-BBS Journey; and another by any connecting train for BBS-VSKP Journey.

Maybe it's called Onward journey?
I use these tickets at times, I just book the journey as follows....
From - Kanpur
To - Visakhapatnam
Boarding at - Kanpur
Reservation up to - Bhubaneshwar
Then in the Onward journey section further down the reservation form, I put the details of the 2nd train.
This way, I get the benifit of telescopic rates.
I don't know if it's the correct way, but it works for me.
2 things though, this cant be done on the Internet, only when booking at a reservation office, and it cant be done for Rajdhani trains and probibly not for Garib Rath trains, these trains have different fare structures. (though I suppose it could be done if both trains were Rajdhani or Garib Rath)
I've also never tried it using different classes in each train, though I think this can be done.

Yes, but make sure you mention this before any tickets are issued, as sometimes the ticket seller just issues 2 seperate single tickets at full cost.

you can't book 'onward' tickets on the internet, you need to go to the reservation office to book.
Onward ticket booking
I had given only one ticket booking form in the counter, i asked to do an onward ticket from DHN to HWH ( JU HWH SF) and HWH to ZN ( East Coast Exp. ). He had booked two different tickets and charged 595/- instead of 475/- if booked onward.( I had done the reservation in TATANAGAR railway station. But afetr booking my ticket counter get closed because its already 8.00pm.
Now what i have to do ?
and how these type of persons get employed into Indian Railways ??
I asked him and he gave me the form back and told to come on monday, what if he is not there ?

1. I do not know how did you arrive at the said figure.
2. Did you submit a single requisition form or two forms to the clerk?
3. Even if you had submitted a single form, you would not get telescopic benefit since the total distance covered you by these two trains exceeds 15% of shortest distance between Dhanbad and Jangaon.

To add to above, you should have given a single slip with DHN toZN as the ticket with Reservation from DHN to HWH in Train JU HWH SF and HWH to ZN in train East Coast Exp. If you give two slips it is considered two separate bookings.
What can you do now?
Cancel the tickets and book again. OR
Well, think of it as a charge for experience that will hopefully be usefull in Future.

IMHO, gnikhilreddy143 should have booked the tickets from Dhanbad to Jangaon (ZN). In the onward section he should have entered Train No 18645. From Howrah to Jangaon. Then he might have got the benefit of telescopic fare.
