Booking trains
I'll be in India for my second time.
I'll arrive in Mumbai and i'll stay for 2 days. DO you know if it's possible to book there in CST all my trains for south and part of north of india (Bom-Hubli,Hubli-Hospet,Mysore-Madurai,Madurai-Chennai,Kolkata-Varanasi) if i know train number, class, ecc.? Last time i travelled in India i've used only Shatabdi Express and tickets where bought by a travel Agency. |

If you know the dates you're traveling, you can book them all on the internet and print the tickets at home.
At least book your Mumbai - Hubli - Hospet tickets before you go to India, then you can book the rest at CST (assuming you're not traveling in peak periods) |

It is better to book your tickets on the internet but if you insist on buying them in Mumbai then it is preferable to go to the Western Railway Reservation Booking Office opposite the Churchgate railway station where there is a shorter queue as well as a foreign tourist quota counter in the booking office. You can pay in Indian Rupees as well as in foreign currencies like USD, GBP or EUR. Hope this helps.
Cheers, Aadil.

Booking trains
How do you book over the internet from the US? There are four of us, so can we book the seats so that we are together?
Also, we are planning a sleeper from Delhi to Varanasi & perhaps one from Varanasi to Jodhpur. How many people in a cabin and is it open plan... Finally, we noted that you have to padlock your bags... what is that about? |

Dear Janv,
Your observation:- "...Also, we are planning a sleeper....." ----------- @@@If it is a non-air con Sleeper, there will be 8 Persons in a Bay - One Side Lower Berth/One Side Upper Berth/ Two Lower Berths/ Two Middle Berths / Two Upper Berths; and this is an open Bay without any doors. ............... @@@If it is a AC-3 Tier, same like non-air-con Sleeper, but it will have AC Facility; and this is an open Bay without any doors. ................. @@@If it is a AC-2 Tier, in a Bay, there will be 6 Berths but without doors & with curtains. One Side Lower Berth/ One Side Upper Berth / Two Lower Berths / Two Upper Berths. .................... @@@If it is a I AC-cum-2AC, there will be 3 Cabins in IAC portion, fitted with doors - One Cabin with 4 Cabins; One Cabin with 4 Berths; One Cabin with Two Berths. .......... @@@If it is a full IAC Coach, then there will be 4 Cabins each having 4 Berths and Three Cabins, each having Two Berths each. ============= The IAC is the costliest class of travel over Indian Railways. ============= V.Srinivasa Prasad 12.6.2006/15.15 hrs. |

No ---except for the small gift that you might make to the Ticket Inspector to transfer you if one is free
![]() You can't specify when you book. Seriously, though, 1AC is on a par with air travel for cost: you might as well fly if you are going to spend that much (assuming that there is an alternative flight. |

regarding booking over the internet, I understand that one can "only" book 2 months in advance. Is it the same when booking at the counter?
I need a ticket for 2 days before Divali from Delhi to Varanasi and I guess I'll not be the only person who wants to travel during that time. Will it be hard to get a reservation? |

Dear Nick-H,
Your observation:- "..You can't specify when you book....." ---- @@@You can make a request as 'COUPE' and your request will be fed into the system. But you will get a confirmation, only after the Charts are pasted on the Compartment. ============================== ============================= Dear Ronago, Please look at this:- .... You Queried For Train Number Train Name Date (DD-MM-YYYY) Source Station Destination Station Quota Code 6592 HAMPI EXP 12-8-2006 BANGALORE CY JN HOSPET JN GENERAL S.No. Date (DD-MM-YYYY) Class - 1A Class -2A 1 12- 8-2006 AVAILABLE- 0008 AVAILABLE- 0047 ============================== ==== @@These 8 Berths are adjustable in any of the Three Cabins, namely, A-Cabin (4 Berths), B-Cabin (4 Berths), C-Cabin (2 Berths) and actual cabins will be decided only when Final Charts are prepared - in Bangalore for 6592 and Hubli for 6591) =============== V.Srinivasa Prasad 13.6.2006/16.35 hrs. |
