booking train- have i made a booboo?

Hi, despite all the comprehensive information available i appear to have cocked up my train booking.
Girlfriend and i booked overnight 2AC from Agra Fort to Varanasi Jn lower and upper side bunks for Monday 4th Aug
However... I chose to wait until they could guarantee berths in same cab.
Have i been a fool? If i don't hear anything will i miss out? Can i rectify this? Would i just have to cancel and re-book?

Just cancel and rebook.

And you really don't want side berths. They're smaller than the others and there is less privacy. You'll be kept awake all night by people wandering along the aisle. In the other berths you can sleep with your head at the window end and your feet at the aisle.

Thanks Mickey,
If I re-book, how do i influence an allocation of nearby bunks?Girlfriend a bit wary of night alone.

At least on the Marudhar Express (4854) both 2A and 3A are waitlisted for Aug 4 at the moment, so hold on to those side berths until you find something better....

Funny you posted this...I'm wondering if I made the same mistake. I just purchased 2 1AC tickets. I don't think I'm waitlisted, but the seat assignments just say "0000." Anyone know what this means?

Did the ticket said 'CONFIRMED'? If yes, the Coupe (or)Cabin, as the case may be, will be allotted at the time of finalising the Chart.

Berths in 1A are allocated at the time the chart is prepared. You cannot determine in advance whether you will be allocated berths in a 2-berth or 4-berth compartment.

Are you saying you don't have the tickets yet? I'm confused, there's only 2 tickets allocated for the AF-BSB sector in this train.

Anyway, don't get a refund on your tickets, but do book more tickets, you can cancel the others later.

Book from Idgah Agra to Varanasi Jn on the same train, Idgah Agra station is 2kms from Agra Fort (on the way to Agra Cant), but has loads more tickets. (though i've not checked availability)

Train 4854/4864

Agra Fort - Varanasi Jn

2A = 2
3A = 8
SL = 16

Idgah Agra Jn - Varanasi Jn

2A = 6
3A = 22
SL = 180

Just to say that I prefer the side berths, because I find they give one more privacy, and neither Mr Hongkonger or I (he's 6', I'm 5'7") have problems with the size.

Can't say I've been bothered by people walking up and down anymore than when I've had the other berths.

Ta Hongkonger, I'm 6'1 so might get my protruding toes tickled on occasion?
Can't seem to get back in to add another booking........Fingers, toes and all six chest hairs crossed.

I prefer side berths more than others. I think it gives more privacy as there will be four other people sitting/lying next in a feet or so. In SB a couple can njoy total privacy though one will get more disturbed by the passersby through the aisle, but they will just walk by you, u dont have to share ur luggage alignment, berth negotiations request, answer odd questions from some people who want to make friends among fellow passengers(though I feel nice socialising on train).Moreover SBs provide more legspace in daytime as u can unfold the seats to seat crosslegged or viceversa as per ur comfort.
