Booking Kalka-Shimla Toy Train Online?
Booking Kalka-Shimla Toy Train Online?
OK, I am almost there!!
I have finally gotten to the point where I can book a train form Delhi to Kalka (either the #4095 or the 2011)- discovered I was trrying to do this too far in advance - but the Toy Train dosen't come up as an option when I try to book 'Kalka to Simla.' Is this an unreserved train? Or do I have to enter another code?
Thanks1

What toy train?
Or are you saying that no toy train appears?
Select 'all class' before you search for a train.

This is how I booked online my Delhi to Shimla Tour rail tickets (apologies for not remembering train numbers)
Delhi to Kalka Shatabdhi (Leaves Delhi on 7.45AM and supposed to reach Kalka on 11.40AM)
Kalka - Shimla Leaves Kalka on 12.10.
I think you cannot see any train in the Kalka-Shimla route as 'Toy-Train' because every train on the route is 'toy trains'. Its is a narrow guage railway, hence the term 'toy train'.

All the trains to Simla run on the narrow gauge (toy) train. Many of them run with different classes - so for example if you put in 'CC' on a random date you will get these trains:
241 SHIVALK DLX EXP 05:30 10:15 M T W TH F S SU
255 HIMALYAN QUEEN 12:10 17:20 M T W TH F S SU
You get results with first and second too, but not 2AC for example as it doesn't run with that class of train.

Maury, you've been asking about this before. This site doesn't allow for multiple-posting (which includes continuing essentially the same thread elsewhere), and it would be very handy if you could keep your related queries together. For yourself and for others.
nb I don't know if this pertains (don't know the area so well), but there was this post today on (the non-possibility of) booking the Shivalik Queen between Kalka and Shimla: how can i get the train ticket from kalka to shimla? . A couple of trains of similar names if I'm not mistaken in this region get asked about a lot with never much of a result, and/but I think this is the answer. Maybe someone in the know about that region should rework it into a sticky.

HI,WELCOME TO INDIA.
I HAD BEEN TO THAT TRAIN AND I DONT THINK THERE IS POSSIBILITY OF ADVANCE BOOKING OF THAT TRAIN. YOU CAN ANYTIME GO THERE AND TICKETS ARE ALWAYS AVAILABLE. BUT YOU SHOULD BE VERY CAREFUL THAT YOU SHOULD BOARD THE TRAIN AT THE INITIAL STATION WHICH IS NAMED PATHANKOT. OTHERWISE, FROM IN BETWEEN, THERE WILL BE MUCH CROWDED. SO BETTER GO FROM INITIAL OR ORIGIN STATION WHICH IS PATHANKOT.
FOR ANY FURTHER ASSITANCE, YOU CAN FREELY ASK.

I have decided that this whole process is just too confusing: I cancelled my trip to India and instead will spend the month of October ridding the subway here in New York City..............
JUST KIDDING!!!
Just Booked My Tickets On Line!
Will be traveling on October 4th from New Delhi to Simla. Anybody on the same trains: say hello to the tall, grey haired America guy with the contented grin!
MY SINCEREST THANKS TO ALL FOR YOUR HELP!!

Shimla Toy Train
Hey guys. I will be traveling to Shimla the coming Jan (2011) for my honeymoon. I researched a bit on the toy train (officially called: "Kalka-Shimla - Deluxe Rail Motor Car"). The capacity is aroudn 15 passengers. I was thinking of buying out all the tickets as a surprise for my wife
. But I am not sure where to buy from, or whether this is even possible. I checked the IRCTC website, but couldn't find this particular train anywhere. Any suggestions please?

yes,you can buy the tickets from reservations centers when i went to shimla i booked from my city. but as you said that you will be going in jan ALSO MENTION THE DATE.WE CAN BOOK THE TICKETS 1 month BEFORE THE DAY OF DEPARTURE. .i think it runs between 15 dec and 15 jan and because it is a luxury train so there is no sign of getting it in irctc.u should check this sites-:indianrail.gov.in and ambalarail.com it is the official site of kalka shimla railway which comes under ambala division.there are other trains also like shivalik deluxe and shivalik queen and shivalik cottage and there are no toilets in rail motor car so you have to detain at stations.

The reason i waited for others to comment is this: I doubt if they will allow a single party to buy out all tkts. Even if they do, once they realise on boarding that its only a couple who have booked out the whole car, they may allow others to occupy the rest of the vacant seats, putting paid all the effort and hope of a romantic and undisturbed journey.
So the learned men like steven and VSP may pl chip in.

Thanks Shivam and Narendra.
@Shivam: I am aware of the dates window. I will be booking tickets for 1st Jan, so no problem there. By 'reservation centers', I am assuming you mean the ones in every city, right? So I will be able to buy the tickets on say 2nd Dec, from Bombay? That would be very helpful. Thanks.
@Narendra:
. Man that's a good catch! I should have thought of that. That's why it would help to be able to talk to people in charge of that train. Any contact numbers? I did check, but couldn't find any specific ones.
