I just spoke with American Express customer service. Safe Key enrollment is neither an option nor a requirement for American Express card members in the United States.

Additional - The first things to try are

1. If you use Internet Explorer try a different browser such as Firefox or Chrome.

2. Try at different times of day.

I just tried to use IRCTC after a 2-year hiatus. After asking me to update my account, it asked me for my mobile number. I've now email care@ and asked them to email me mobile log in. Will I have to send a scan of my passport?

I'm kicking myself because Dave suggested I do a test booking ages ago and I procrastinated and now I know I want to do a booking in 48 hours and am afraid I won't have this sorted out by then. Grrr...

You may have to send a scan of your passport.

Judging by what others have posted regarding their experience I think that you will need to send a passport scan.

Have a look at this thread

Solving problems with IRCTC/Cleartrip registration

I started from where you are now and got it sorted in less than a week and others have had a result in much less time. In your case you need to ignore the "jump forward" link at the top of the first post and just start from #1.

Yes, I got an email back asking for a scan of my passport. So, I guess I'll have to do that and hopefully get it all sorted out soon enough to book my tickets.

Does it have to be a scan of my passport or will a photo do? I don't have a scanner but did just take a photo with my iphone that is pretty good quality. Am I wasting my time sending it on?

Somebody on the Solving Problems thread mentioned that they took a picture with their phone and that was accepted. I'll try to find their post and add a link.

Here it is.

I noticed this message on the Cleartrip site today. I don't recall seeing it before. A closure from 08.00 to 12.00 IST equates to 02.30 - 06.30 GMT or 03.30 to 07.30 BST.

Help! I got my mobile code and everything went well but now my Amex pymt was not accepted because my postal code didn't match what I put in on the IRCTC site. In Canada our postal codes are 6 letters/numbers not 5. Is there a work around for this?

The 2 hour ‘Cleartrip closure’ that was from 08:00 to 10:00 was increased to 4 hours about two weeks ago.

Emelle64, your AMEX payment problem may have nothing to do with postal codes but because of KeySafe or SafeKey.

I did it! I did it! After 3 failed attempts and one phone call to my Amex fraud dept (after 2 failed attempts they froze my Amex) I successfully booked our tickets from Delhi to Jaisalmer. The 2 failed attempts were because of my postal code because when I only put in 5 digits of my 6 digit Canadian postal code, it worked. These were the tickets I wanted the most and because there are only 4 available on any train and there are 4 of us travelling, I was concerned I wouldn't get them.

Thanks for everyone's help.

Emelle
