cancellation from abroad?

I booked three tickets for November 29 over the internet. They are still waitlisted tickets but my credit card has been charged. I had requested that they be held at the New Delhi reservation office. A problem came up an we had to cancel our trip to India. Is there any way that I can get a refund?

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to specify "lower bunk" when reserving 2AC sleeping berths?

Until what time can one pick up tickets at the New Delhi station? How long does it normally take?

Yes, one has to specify "LB" against the name of the passenger desiring a lower berth, on the reservation form. If you wish to have a side lower berth, then put in a request for "SL".

I think one can pick up the E-ticket till 20=00 hours Mon. to Sat. and till 14=00 hours on a Sunday.

Shimla: In 1AC, my agent in Mumbai says that you cannot pick "LB".. That you specify the birth at time of boarding! Is this right?

Yes, that's right ! In 1AC, your ticket too will not indiacte the cabin / coupe or berth. It will just say "CONFIRMED". You have to check what cabin/coupe and berth have been allotted to you, at the time of boarding the train on the day of journey. This you will know from the reservation chart displayed on the platform.

Apparently this option has been discontinued recently and one can only get one's ticket couriered to a given address in specified cities!!

Can Steven or anybody confirm this please ?

Hi. I noticed that tickets can be booked from anywhere to anywhere, but is there any issue with having the tickets couriered to a city different from the departure/arrival cities?

Thanks

The tickets will be couriered only to cities specified by the Indian Railways on their reservation website; and not to any city. The specified city can be different from your origin/destination.

Hi. I booked a ticket from Mumbai LTT to Varanasi BSB. I made print out of my reservation form and it shows these as the start and ending destinations. However, I went on the Indian Rail site to check on the status of the tickets. When I enter my PNR number, the reservation is showing the start and ending destinations as Delhi and Mumbai.

Is this typical of the reservation system or should I be worried?

Thanks!

Well, I sent an email to the Indian Rail booking site (see link below) and about 5 minutes later, they sent me an email confirming my booking with all of the correct info. For anyone else who may be subjected to a similar situation, hence generating a bit of shephard's pie in the knickers, here is the IR feedback link....

http://www.indianrail.gov.in/index.html

Click on the "Train Between Cities" link, scroll to the bottom, and you'll see a link to the feedback section.

You will have to specify an address in any city which has the facility for the ticket to be couriered there.
