I am not sure Australian DL would be considered or not..however I just used the e-ticket couple of days back, but was not asked for any ID...but again that might be an one off case..

But yes, for your second question, you just take the printout and Board the train..

Thanks Shashank!
I assumed that was how you did it, but my partner is stressing over it a bit.

Just emailed them for clarification re: Drivers Licence...

Hi lateral thinkers

What are the options for booking before arrival if you do not have hotel bookings as a collection point once in India? Is this simply a dead end?

Could they go to a post office poste-restante?

I believe this is the difference between i-tickets (printable at home) and e-tickets (to be picked up at local address -- or vice versa or whatever). No experience with it so haven't the foggiest. Some searching on this site should give you all the details I think, try the "sticky" threads in the Trains sub-forum for starters.

I don't think poste restante will work for the deliverable kind no (creative idea though. Has anyone ever tried?), you'd need a hotel or befriended address for it, it seems.

You can book E-tickets and take the printout..

That printout with the specified ID proof would serve as a ticket..

[quote=SHIMLA;37578]A few inputs :

1. The internet reservation facility is open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, except Sundays. On Sundays the reservation closes at 2 p.m. All times IST.

This post was in this sticky back in 2004...... does anyone know if the same times apply now, for booking these elusive e-tickets?

I've done a post about booking from one station and boarding at another (to take advantage of different quotas).

Read it here.

Yes, 7 days a week.

The website plays up some times.

You need to enter all your details as fast as you can or the page times out.

I've bought 2 tickets for 8 passengers summary at the site 2 hours ago without any problems. Very useful thing to make the process faster - to use the master list of passangers - you fill it any time you like, and than just check out boxes and add passangers to the Passenger Travel List.
