some updates...

we went to Yesvantpur station and tried to give our application to the CRO. However, he asked us to drop the same on 1st July (a day before journey)in EQ box placed in Majestic...

Also the luggage booking guy at the counter asked to bring the dog along during paying for him(around 650rs).

##
Carrying of pet dogs in trains
As per extant rules, a pet dog can be carried in dog box in Second Class Luggage and Brake Van (SLR ). Dog is also permitted to be carried with the passenger in AC First Class and First Class Compartments only provided that the whole coupe (2 berther or 4 berther ) is booked by the passenger or the group of passengers for his/their exclusive use. Dog carried in dog box is charged at luggage rates applicable to the train at 30 kgs per pet dog. Pet dogs can also be carried in AC first class and First Class at luggage rate for 60 kgs per dog. Dogs are not allowed to be carried in AC2 tier, AC 3 tier, AC Chair Car, Sleeper Class and Second Class Compartments. The facility for booking of a dog in AC First Class and First Class and Dog Boxes provided in SLRs can be availed in all Mail/Express and in AC First Class in Rajdhani Trains. Both First Class and AC First Class have separate cabins/coupes so that carriage of pets does not cause inconvenience to copassengers.
In Shatabadi trains, booking of dogs is not permitted as these trains do not have AC First Class and First Class compartments. Booking of dogs in dog boxes is not permitted in Rajdhani/Shatabdi trains as they do not have dog boxes. In other trains one dog box is provided and only one dog is booked per train on first-com-first served basis. There is no provision of advance booking of dogs. They are booked at the counter, one hour before departure of the train. Dogs are locked in the dog boxes in the presence of the owner who is responsible for feeding of the dog enroute. Special Vehicle (Horse Boxes ) can also be provided in case of number of dogs being more then one and upto 36 in the case of dogs being of large size.

@ Dipyaman

Could you please give me some idea about the inside arrangements/facilities of the coupe/cabin in Yesvantpur-Howrah Duronto exp?

one more Q... is it true that the AC coach could be on either extreme end of the train and there is no fixed layout for the same?

Glad to hear - how about some details of how you managed it?

It might be helpful for others.

Cheers

Okay, so the journey began with online search and finally finding this very active forum!

We booked the ticket (1st AC in 12246 Duronto Express) offline some 3 months ago and had asked the guy at the counter to feed the coupe preference in his system. Although he was unsure about pet (dog) travelling by train and wanted me to go and ask some official at the station, I simply said, I did ask those guys and they said it's fine!

2 weeks ago, we went to Yesvantpur station to meet the station master/CRO. I thought we need to submit the application for coupe allotment to the CRO, however, he asked us to submit the same under EQ quota and drop the application at the central station (Majstic) a day before journey.

We did the same. 1st July by 8 am, our application went inside the EQ box.

From that moment till next day 9:30 am, was the longest day I suppose...We could not think of any alternative in case we do not get the coupe..we kept on checking the PNR status online in case the chart gets prepared by night..unfortunately that did not happen and we had to reach the station and find it on spot.

With 4 luggage and a super excited puppy, we somehow reached the station by 8:30 am. BY 9:15 am, I was already at the en-query. From last couple of weeks, I was reciting the coupe numbers day and night and I was exactly doing the same standing at the counter too. Finally the guy took my ticket and said, H1/B.. "B"!!! I could feel my heartbeat which eventually turned into panic attack as the guy declared B is a cabin and not a coupe! I asked him one more time and he repeated the same.

There is a TTE at the platform 6, who looks like Raghubir Yadav, the actor. That guy had helped us during this ticket booking and searching for CRO, he knew our story and fortunately I could find him on my way back and showed him the ticket.. in no time, he said, that's a coupe.

I really wanted to trust my memory (I read the coupe numbers in a different forum I think) and also the TTE, who was never wrong! However, that very moment was really tough unless and until the train arrived and my husband went inside to have a look.. there he came with a colgate smile on his face which relived me too :-) and I said my puppy, Maxy, we are going home, all together.

on 2nd July, he turned 9 months. It was difficult to walk him til the luggage booking office, but they inisted on seeing him, anyways.

The stuffs were really nice and Max got instantly famous.I even took him to the shower room for toilet, but that little fellow had decided to hold for 23hrs!! He slept beside me on the berth and had a good time enjoying the outside view.

Re-locations are always stressful and at the moment he is still under stress and anxiety. Hopefully no more re-location events in near future!

Sorry. I never saw this message of yours earlier.
Following is the layout for LHB 1st AC Coach.

Regarding the position of 1st Coach; by now you must be aware that it is placed right at the extreme of the platform. You would need to enter platform 6 and walk right across the end. Till some months back it used to be right at the front of the gate. Also the arrangement of AC Coaches are not permanent.

Yes you can (at least that's what I heard during the process) provided you pay the charge for both.

One of my friend had enquired the same as he wanted me to carry his puppy along with mine in my coupe.. he told me it is allowed.. but finally he opted for flight..
Try confirming it with the authority of your boarding station... their decision is the final, so you better ask them.

OK
Just a followup of my experience
I went to Parcel office in delhi railway station on platform no 16
the officer there told me that TWO Dogs in one coupe are permitted in AC-I provided we have a couple coupe

for getting the couple coupe i have given a written request at the charting office at new delhi rly station(they told me that if a VIP request does not come normally customers request is given priority)
