Booked for 4; Can I alter One person by making additional fees/procedure?

Hi,

I am new to this forum & hope I will post my query in the correct section. This is my first post.

I planed & booked 4 tickets/berth for normal Sleeper class from Howrah-Vizag during coming X-Mas eve to visit Araku & Hydrabad.

In my 4, one person (senior citizen/male) can't make himself at that time coz he have some family issue will take place in that time.

As there another person (not senior citizen/female) after knowing our plan took interest to travel with us. Can she travel with us in place of the previous person(senior citizen/male) ?

Now Please suggest the possible solution:-

a) As the seat is ours can she travel with us by paying/booking another ticket ?

b)Is there any way I can alter the name by paying Addl fees/penalty/fine ?

c)though this time pick hours so now I can't get a conf/RAC ticket for her so she will get waiting list, Can she travel with us ?

here is our ticket status:-

25/12/2009 --->Howrah-Vizag ---> RAC to ALL (Howh -Yasanatapur Exp)

31/12/2009 --->Vizag-Hydrabad----> Confirmed All (Godavori Exp)

03/01/2010 --->Hydrabad-Howrah---> Confirmed ALL (East-Coast Exp)

Please let me know what I can Do ? Everything is ready for us only this hazard came up at this moment.

P.S:- Forgot to mention, I purchased the Reservation Ticket from Reservation Booking Counter from my nearest location.

How did you book?

Online? Agent? Station?

I suspect that will make a big difference to the answers you might get from our train experts.

(I'm not a train expert, but I think that for an e-ticket (booked online) one can change any passenger ID except the primary passenger)

Is this female anyway related to the male who is not able to accompany you ?

See the rules.

http://www.indianrail.gov.in/changename.html

If the female is related, changes are that the Chief Reservation Supervisor can allow change the name of the passenger.

If not relative, then this would be a flourishing trade and you would have thousands of touts willing to change the passenger name and make quick bucks !

Nick, It wouldn't make a big difference from where it was booked. Also, the id of primary passenger you are mentioning is done away with. Today, you dont need to give the id while booking the ticket and also the concept of primary passenger is gone. If any one passenger on the ticket is able to show his / her proof, it is fine.

Thanks for that; haven't done a train journey since last year.

I did say "how" not "where" --- as I thought I remembered changing passenger name. It was not a change of passenger, but did something silly like misspelling wife's name, but system wasn't to know it was the same person!

(pretty daft but not impossible; it is one of those names that has several possible spellings, and even she has different versions on different documents. I do remember the one she prefers! )

Thanks arunganpath for your reply/link....and clearing the doubts about rules/procedure.

No...There is no blood relation in between our female/non-senior passenger with male/senior passenger.

I know I am sounding stupid....But.

If she purchase A Sleeper Class ticket which is obviously a W/L now....

Can she travel/use the seat of that which we don't want to cancel if this procedure works ?

else what difficulty we shall face during the trip ?

Unboard from train/Transfer to General compartment/Or Lock Up?

Please let me know...
Thanks in advance.

If she purchases a W/L ticket from the PRS counter, she can enter a reserved compartment. But, she cannot take the seat which you don't want to cancel. As per rules, the TTE would mark that the concerned passenger has not travelled and will allot the berth to the RAC passenger.

But, if you could convince the TTE (I leave the method of convincing to you) that the person accompanying you is geniunely from your group, he MAY allot the berth as you would see many W/L passengers getting into the train and asking TTE to allot the tickets. But it is totally up to the TTE to decide.

Though I dont recommend this, but sometimes the TTE doesn't even check the passengers when they pass the ticket - in which case you may get through. But it is quite risky - when he comes to know, it would hurt his ego and can damage the situation.

If the TTE goes with the rules and if there are RAC passengers in the coach and if the people who have not boarded is very less, he will allot the vacant seat to the RAC passenger and may advise the lady passenger to move to the General Compartment. But, if you guys agree, he may allow her to stay in the compartment without berth. She / any other member may sleep in the passage between berths...

Lockup is where when both parties are adamant...

Thanks for your quick response....Is that mean in front of Bathroom/Exit Door (As I saw many ppls there in the night lying down) ?
Or In-Between 2 lower berth ?

As our Kolkata-Vizag ticket is RAC all till now...Can I get the same privilege to ask the TTE (I mean convincing).

I didn't handle this thing earlier..this is 1st time so I am bit worried/confused.

P.S:- I am also heard south-indian TTEs are a bit strict in Rules-Regulation and hard to brake, Is it true ?

I dont know which TTE is hard as I never tried to break the rule !

I mentioned between two lower berths. Worst case, you can request the TTE that two people will share a berth (you should go like RAC) as a passenger is waitlisted for which he would generally approve. You need to adjust yourselves for that.

Thank you very much for patiently replying my dumb question & more and more clearing my doubts.

As I read again and again your words, I realize that we can't hold the male/senior citizen sit and use for our female passenger.

So in our case what is the smartest way I can go for ?

1.Cancel the male/senior citizen seat & then purchase the W/L ticket for our female passenger & request/convinced the TTE to arrange berth for her? else share the berth & go Like RAC passenger.

2.Keep the male/senior citizen seat & then purchase the W/L ticket for our female passenger & request/convinced the TTE to arrange berth for her? else share the berth & go Like RAC passenger.

In the 25th night it will be hell lot of Rush.Even our RAC stat is 87 to 90.

As you mention Go Like RAC passenger...this only done by using side seat/berth.

In our other two confirmed ride we got the main bunk...one side all 3 & another lower.

In that case what will be our option? Is TTE change/allow to use side berth/seat ?

It would be difficult to select an option. Had I been in your place, I would not cancel the ticket of the senior citizen and that would give me an option to negotiate with the TTE for a berth.

On using as RAC, I did not mean the side berths. Two guys have to share a berth if need be. It can be anything berth - lower, upper or middle or even the side ones..

Can't understand....Say the lower berth passenger (one of us & female) want to co-operate & want to sit all the night with our female W/L passenger, then the middle berth passenger need to sit with them too...coz if this guy hang his berth there is no position to sit in the lower berth...only that is usable for sleeping only.
Being so narrow there is no space to lay side-by-side with even for two female. Only 2 small kids can do that but there is no option for such.

You can decide that when you are in train.

It is miracle or what I don't know...but now I am the happiest person in the world...

I want to thank everybody here in this forum and all to the railway department/system & I thanked booking counter lady.

Now everything is fully secured & legal.

Thanks a lot arunganpath and Nick-H.

After deciding here I went to the counter hoping for W/L ticket for our lady passenger and for my surprise all tickets are confirmed for our single female passenger in the same train. though coach is different though, Is it a problem ? hell NO.

here is PNR No for her :-

25/12/09 -- 643-1991574
31/12/09 -- 643-1991822
03/01/10 -- 114-3929373

Though she is in Quata SS according to indianrail.gov.in PNR page.

Can anybody know what is SS quota ?

Though we still hang in RAC in 25/12/09 Howh -Yasanatapur Exp in GNWL quota.
