Hi,

Is it possible to book a ticket (MUM-JODH) for 13 persons at once? It seems impossible through irctc.co.in. Is there another way? Perhaps through some other agency?

Best regards,

Erik

One has to contact the Chief Reservation Officer at the regional HQ of the railways, get permission and then book at the counter. Or, ask to get a bulk booking via an authorized agent or a GSAS.

Ah thank you so much. I'm not able to get to India beforehand unfortunately. Do you know any authorized agent or GSAS to contact?

See if this resource can do anything.

No harm in asking - whether you go ahead with him or not is a different issue.

On the other hand - why not try and do it yourself.
Book for 6 at one go. Then book the remaining in 2 lots as well. Just after the first booking - check which bogie you have your seats allocated in. Then for the further bookings put that bogie as your preferred one. (option is available). So this way, you can be in the same bogie, though no assurity of the seats being in sequence. (Usually are not.)

Do you have a working account with IRCTC?

The ticket booking software will accept only 6 passenger names per ticket. I don't know whether agents can enter more. Logic says they cannot.

If you have a working account book the first set of 6 passengers. It will give you the coach and seat numbers if they are confirmed. Then book tickets for the second set of 6 passengers. Once you enter the names see below where there is an option to mention the coach numbers where the seats should be allotted. Mention the coach number given in the first set. Repeat the same thing again. Do note that this might work only if there are sufficient seats vacant. Chances will increase if you book 100-120 days ahead of travel date. However there is no guarantee that this will work as IRCTC throws a curve ball sometimes.

Check this forum for Raj from trainticketsplease@gmail.com.

Okay that sounds great. Thanks very much for the help. I thought I could only book for 6 passengers, but you're saying I can book max. six times whatever the amount of people (max 6). On saturday it is 120 days 'till 4th of february so I guess the online booking system will open and I'm going to try to book three times (two times 6 and one time 2 people) and book them in one coach hopefully.

A user can book 6 tickets (maximum 6 passenger in ticket) in a calendar month. This will include tickets that you have cancelled also.

Which class are you planning to book?

There are 1 and half coach on 1A, 1 and half coach on 2A, 4 coaches of 3A and 11 coaches of sleeper in train 12480.

There is 1 coach of 2A, 3 coaches of 3A and 13 coaches of sleeper in train 14708.

Great.
I'll go for 1A, which is seats during daytime and sleeper at night. But only 1 and a half coach, so I must be very quick booking I guess.

By the way, would you recommend this train? Or another train on that day? It seems quite comfortable.

In 1A there are 4 passenger cabin and 2 passenger cabin. You will not get coach / seat numbers while booking 1A.

I would recommend booking 3A where there are 6 seats / berth in the inside berth and 2 seats / berth on the outside. Also high chances of all 14 being close together.

Anyone of the trains should be fine. If traveling in 1A is a must then book tickets in Suryanagari Express.

See http://trainstuff.in/classes-of-travel and http://trainstuff.in/coach-diagrams for more information on seat layouts of different classes.
