##I am sorry,Sir, I don't use IRCTC to book my tickets, because I don't have a Credit Card. However, when I am travelling in a group and if I am unable to book the tickets for all of us for any reason, then somebody else in the group will book the tickets for us through IRCTC by using his credit card.

##Now, please look at this:

##Can you book a waitlisted SL Class ticket for PNBE-SBC with NGP as Boarding Point in the method suggested by you? Once the PNR is generated, you may cancel the ticket. I am sorry, you have to forego Rs.45/- for this experiment and ofcourse, your precious time.:-)

##I am interested to know in which Waiting List, the Passenger would get placed.

Dear Gaurav,

##Thanks for taking pains to attempt this booking.

##I took a print-out. This is before making the payment.

##Hence, I requested you to generate the PNR and then cancel the ticket.

##The RAC.47/RAC.29 is the current status, which I have already produced.

##If you get the RAC Ticket, the status will change to RAC.48/RAC.30. Please see whether this happens or not.

Dear VSP

Over IRCTC you get the ticket which is shown before making payment. This is not an availability screen but a soft commit on inventory. This status has never changed after making payment in the same session..

Moreover I have had several such tickets in past. Not going to make a payment and then cancel..!!!!!!

Yes VSP, the same thing happened to me too. Two months back I had to travel from Mumbai to Chennai on Dadar Chennai Express. I wanted a Ist AC ticket cause I had a puppy with me. I saw that the general quota was full and tickets from Pune was available. So I assumed if I book a ticket from Kalyan, with boarding Pune, I would get a confirmed ticket. But once the booking was over I got a waitlisted ticket and I had to cancel it and book ticket from Pune till Chennai and got a confirmed one immediately.

BTW, I was trying for tickets from Kalyan till Pune and there were not tickets available. And when I boarded the train from Pune, came to know from the reservation chart that no one had booked from Kalyan to Pune.

I just tried a booking (HWH KLK with 1 seat available in 2AC on 20 Nov) and tried changing the boarding point from the Journey details (passenger's name, age etc) window by click the "Engine" button beside the Boarding Point field. IRCTC shows the following warning:

Quote:
You will be allotted berths earmarked for boarding point.Check for availability of berths from boarding point before proceeding
If that's the case, then the following statements are contradictory:

Actual scenario? IRCTC should remove the disclaimer.

One more example that I can quote is of my mothers. She's traveling in yesterday's raj from TVC and she boarded from TCR, will get down at PNVL. I booked the ticket for her with starting point as TVC and boarding point as TCR and I was able to book the ticket for her. Whereas if you try booking directly from TCR to PNVL, there is quota earmarked.

Another similar question: I've got an E-ticket from Madgao to Mumbai for a train that departs from Madgao and goes thru Thivim, which is exactly 1 hour later. If I'll want to board at Thivim instead of Madgao - do I need to inform railways about boarding point change or not?

I have one question regarding slightly different case.
I have booked a 3rd AC ticket in 2296 Sanghmitra Exp, from Satna (STA) to Krishnarajpuram (KJM) and boarding station is Jabalpur (JBP) which comes after 3hr from Satna. I got confirmed ticket. Now I wish to board from Satna instead of Jabalpur. As Satna comes before Jabalpur so there is no issue of seat being occupied by other person as I'll be available in Jabalpur.
Is my ticket valid to board from Satna although I don't mind in not getting birth for the journey between from Satna to Jabalpur?
If ticket is not valid then what's the solution for same so that I don't need to shift my luggage at any station. Now there is no birth availability to book ticket from Satna

You MUST invariably, as per the latest Rules, purchase a fresh Sleeper Class ticket for your journey from Satna to Jabalpur, since Boarding Point change once exercised is final and the passenger should NOT travel on the same ticket from the previous station to the Changed Boarding Point, in this case, between Satna and Jabalpur.
