Yes, you will be considered without ticket between Indore and Ujjain. You could purchase a general class ticket and travel on the same train till Ujjain.

A change of BP is allowed only once which you exercised when you opted boarding at Ujjain. So a change of BP will not be accepted.Though you hold a ticket from Indore, you can only board Your reserved coach at Ujjain. You can however travel in an unreserved coach between Indore and Ujjain without having to again buy a ticket.

I selected 'Boarding Station at Ujjain' at the time of booking ticket itself. Does it mean that I have already exercised the once-only option of 'boarding station' and cannot change boarding now?I thought I can take the train at Indore itself even without buying any ticket since I already paid fare from Indore. Perhaps, I cannot take a berth between Indore to Ujjain since it may be allocated to someone else.
Anyway, I have decided to board at Indore without any change in ticket. Lets see how much fine I have to pay.

Thats right. You can't change BP now.

Please re-read my post. Because the fare is paid for the sector, you can board the train without buying any additional ticket, but in General class. You can not travel in any Reserved class. Please do come back and post your experience.

Why? You have a ticket valid for the sector. Why not in the General coach.
Any circulars?

Ticket is valid from the point of boarding and not the point of booking. If the ticket had been valid for the sector (Between Point of Booking and Point of Boarding), there would not have been any problem for a traveler to board the reserved coach and occupy his/her seat.
In case, one would need to travel he has to get a 2nd Class Unreserved Ticket and pay for the difference of fare. (If berth/seat are available)
Else, if he gets into the train without an Unreserved Ticket, he would have to pay a fine (Usually Rs. 250) + Fare for the said distance (Point of Booking to Point of Boarding) subject to minimum distance fare.
##
Above would not work for premier trains or ones which do not have Unreserved Coaches.

A reserved ticket is actually a Journey cum Reservation Ticket.
The Journey ticket is valid for journey in a General coach between a pair of Stations (From and To), while the reservation ticket gives the right to a seat/berth in a reserved coach of appropriate class between a boarding Point and destination station.
Am I wrong?

Sir,
If that was so how would you expect one to undertake his journey in trains where Unreserved Coaches are not attached?

I have a reserved ticket from Howrah to Bhubaneshwar. I missed that train. If there is another train within half an hour to Bhubaneshwar, can i travel in that train with the same ticket in unreserved coach? Can I request the TTE to give a berth if available with the same ticket.

Yes. If you are making an onward journey and if you miss the onward journey due to late arrival of the first train, you may meet the Station Manager and request him to oblige you by providing a berth in the next available train. If berth/s is/are available, he would authorise you the same and the onboard TTE would also be informed of the same.

Else, ticket for one train is not valid in other train/s.
Can we board at next station
Hi I have a ticket from Mahboob nagar to Bhopal, i wanted to board at Kachiguda ( station after Mahboob nagar) , i booked the ticket on irctc website and wanted to make this change but irctc doesnot allow any change in boarding point etc.
Is it ok to board at next station ( appx 2 hrs apart).
or Is it possible to get this changed by visiting the reservation counter ( for ticket booked on irctc).

It can be changed at any booking counter atleast one day before the train departs from origin station.
You will most likely lose your berth if you board at KCG without making the change.

changing boarding station in counter reservation
I want to book ticket through a computerised reservation counter from Puri to New Jalpaiguri, but board at Kharagpur. How should I fill the reservation form, and what else should i do?
