I am in the US. My family and I have booked train tickets for mid-August from Udaipur to Delhi. We booked these online with cleartrip and have PN numbers for the tickets. We have altered our itinerary and now wish to travel from Udaipur to Agra. Cleartrip tells me I have to change our train tickets when I get to Delhi. What is the most efficient way to do this? I am concerned tickets will not still be available when I get there?

I'll assume you have tickets booked on a single train from Udaipur to Delhi.

What train?

How good are you at getting up early in the morning?

Do you want to see the Taj Mahal as the sun comes up?

OK, questions over.

I've no idea what cleartrip are on about, but this doesn't worry me as I'm fairly certain that cleartrip have no idea what they're on about, some of their decisions and replies are at very best, uneducated guesses.

Here's some basics.

None of the trains from Udaipur to Delhi pass through Agra.

The only thing that you can do with your ticket in India, that you can't always do online is, change the boarding or destination station, You can't change the train.

To book a train from Udaipur to Agra, you would need to buy a new ticket for a different train.

Here's a possible solution, but it only works if the ticket your holding is for train 12964, the Mewar Express.

The Mewar Express gets to Mathura Jn at 04:30, Mathura is 50km from Agra, a taxi would get you to the Taj Mahal by 6am.

Mathura Jn is a big station, and there will be a few taxis by the entrance, a taxi to the Taj Mahal should cost maybe Rs700-800 at night rate, but good luck trying, if you can get it for Rs1500 you'll have done well, but don't argue too much with the guy, you'll want him to watch your luggage till you leave the Taj Mahal.

I would agree with Steven. Get down at Mathura and go to Agra from there.

Thank you so much for recommending we get off at Mathura Jn. Would be wonderful to see the Taj in the am.
We are booked on the Mewar Express 12964 which seems to pass through Agra and then go on to Delhi (NZM). My difficulty is our ticket is for Aug. 13. We want to stay an extra night in Udaipur and leave August 14 same train (Mewar Express 12964. When I tried to book for the 14 with cleartrip their schedule was showing no seat availability. So I was going to try and change our ticket dates in Delhi, yes?

The Mewar Express doesn't pass through Agra.

You can't change your ticket dates, you can cancel and book another ticket, but only if there is availability.

You have 3 choices.

1, keep your tickets and get off at Mathura on the morning of the 14th.

2, Book a new ticket on the same train to depart Udaipur on 14th, but only Sleeper Class is available (via FTQ)

3, Train 12966 departs Udaipur daily at 22:20 and gets to Agra Cant at 11:00 the next morning, if you book this train online for the 14th in 2A, you will get RAC1 & RAC2 tickets, these WILL get confirmed, there is also loads of availability in Sleeper Class on the same train.

Cleartrip are completely wrong, there is nothing you can do to change the date of journey if there is no availability on the 14th.

You need to make a quick decision, those RAC tickets are great, but once you get to RAC3 & 4, getting confirmed is a little less likely, and once it gets to WL (waitlist), it's a lot less likely to get confirmed.
