The toy train up to or down from Ooty. Stunning scenery, with a stop halfway up/down at a small station packed with greedy little monkeys!

SHIMLA recommended the same line in an earlier post, official name: "Mettupalaiyam to Udagamandalam by Nilgiri Mountain Railway"...

Chola Express, Madras to many of the temple towns of TN. Leavs 08:00 hrs, and you can pick it up from Mahabs by taking a taxi to Chengalapattu, about an hour or so later. Never seems very crowded, and hits Chidambaram, Kumbakonam, Thanjavur and Tiruchi. Great scenery of the Kaveri delta to boot. And many of the stations play carnatic music, adding a charming touch. Highly recommended!

The Blue Mountain Railway to Udhagamandalam is simply stunning - the best five hour rail journey I have been on that I can remember.

The other Toy Train that I enjoyed was from Kalka to Shimla, scenery not so stunning (when I went - it was a bit cloudy) but a good trip. I love the way we were fed with pancakes and eggs and things in the quaint little coaches.

The real "must see" I think will the DHR to Darjeeling. I cannot wait for the day to come when I can do that trip!

(Now watch someone come on next and make me jealous by saying they have done it!!!)

What are you doing in 2 weeks time Richard? I might just pop up to Darjeeling on the DHR, they say the views are stunning at this time of year.
