I just booked four tickets in 2A on the Rajdani between Delhi and Trivandrum. I got confirmed tickets but under booking status the berth number for one passenger is number 50 (the other three are not ideal but fairly close together). Two questions:

1) Every chart I've seen says there is no berth number 50 on a 2A coach. Any idea what this is?

2) I was hoping that the four of us could all share a bay ... the current berth numbers are listed under booking status and there is a note that seating chart has not yet been prepared. Will the berths under booking status change later (hopefully for the better)?

Thanks for any help out there ... I've consulted IndiaMike many times over the years but I've finally gotten around to registering ... nice to be more officially part of the community!

1) TVC Rajdhani is having LHB Coaches where 2AC Coaches has 52 berths while some of the older 2AC Coaches (LHB Made only) has 54 (Ex:- Mumbai Rajdhani)
2) Your Confirmed berths may even get downgraded to RAC or Waitlisted Tickets.

Thanks ... that explains the berth number 50. But it's frightening that "confirmed" doesn't really mean confirmed!!

No ways VCR ! a confirm berth means confirm. Yes there is a system of up gradation but only if you have opted for it. It can never happen that once you have a confirm berth it can change to RAC or waitlist.

I would think it can, the Indian Railway network is so vast that I believe anything can happen.

Recently in Kerala there's been a problem with passenger carriage maintenance, this led to a shortage of carriages.

(The Kochi division was sending it's carriages for maintenance in Tamil Nadu, and the carriages were then being sent to a Tamil Nadu division, a bit of politics going on I suspect)

The reduction in passenger carriages forced the Kochi division to cancel all AC RAC tickets to accommodate the displaces AC passengers, and a whole carriage worth of 3AC passengers were instead given Sleeper Class berths, and this was on a train going to Delhi.

I've read many reports of AC passengers being given Sleeper Class berths over the years, and for many different reasons, normally to do with non availability of AC carriages.

this is more common than it should be... once howrah-chennai mail did not have the HA coach ready for service, so 1A passengers were provided modified but confirmed accommodation in 2A at the time of charting. of course one could choose not to board & get full refund, but one hardly has the luxury of such choices after reaching the station.

i would be keen on knowing how the Confirmed gets changed to RAC or W/L...

Sir,

##As pointed out by one of our Members, a Confirmed Ticket very rarely moves back to RAC/ WL. More or less, it can be construed that the possibilities for such a thing to happen are "NIL".

##But, a Waitlisted Ticket which has moved into Confirmed Status before Charting might get back to Waiting List status,"very rarely", i.e., when there is a technical problem with a Reserved Coach, just before the departure of the train.

##On 10.1.2013, there was a problem with A-5 Coach in SC>>VSKP Special and all the passengers of A-5 have been accommodated in B-4 Coach. I have witnessed this.
