Okay looking for 2A tickets to/from Hampi next weekend, and I notice that on the Sunday night train:

HPT-SBC availability is 0001
GDG-SBC availability is 0018

How come?
If there's 18 from Gadag to Bangalore then surely there's also 18 from Hospet.

Quota's, some sections/stations have a certain quota, though don't ask me to explain, it's damn near impossable to get quota numbers and info.

You should be fine with WL/01, this will get confirmed by next week.

You can always book from Gadag (boarding at Hospet).

Yep Steven is right, we used to pay around with station quotas in our Univ days. Its OK to to use quotas of the station which is earlier on the route(or from where u r boarding). Incase you are booking a ticket from a station which is not where you are going to board, keep in mind to specify the station from where you are boarding and make sure that the booking guy has recorded it.

Well, I'd rather be safe than sorry. Last time I went to Hampi, when the train left my ticket was stuck at WL7. It had started at WL22. Had to get an overnight bus back to Bangalore and was stuck in the last row of a bumpy ride. Luckily there was one other free seat a couple of rows up but was broken and didn't recline but still 100x better than the back row. Got bugger-all sleep. I don't want another bus ride like that ever again. Another thing was I should have gone to Hospet station to get my refund straight away. Thought it would be easy enough to get the refund from Bangalore but after being sent into the warren of beauracracy, had to fill out a form with the promise the cheque (for 200-odd Rs) would be ready for me to pick in 7 days. Needless to say after the 30Rs rickshaw trips each way and the 2 hours finding the right place, then 200-odd Rs didn't really seem worth the effort.

Anyway, I will book my ticket to start from Munirabad. It's only 4km away from Hospet so less chance of the conductor thinking its empty and allocating it to someone else.

kiwi_razz, I'm sure you already know the following, I'm just adding it for anyone who doesn't.

It is possible to book a train from one city and board the train at another, though you MUST state your intentions on the reservation form

For example, If you are travelling from Hampi to Bangalore, you may find that there is a waitlist from Hospet (closest station to Hampi), but there are still berths available from Gadag, to book this way, do the following.

Station from Gadag, To Bangalore, Boarding at Hospet, Reservation up to Bangalore.

You MUST put Hospet in the Boarding at section, otherwise the train conductor will assume you have cancelled your trip and give your berth to someone with an RAC (Reserved Against Cancellation) ticket.

You will have to pay the fare from Gadag to Bangalore.

Understanding Reservation Forms.

I see you have booked from Munirabad, great idea, the berths won't be checked till after Hospet.

Did Munirabad have a different quota to Hospet?

Munirabad seems to be included in the Gadag quota not the Hospet quota.

Bought my ticket last night and now availability says:
HPT - SBC: WL3/WL1 still
MRB - SBC: 0009 available which was 0010 before I bought my ticket.

So a good hint for those wanting tickets to/from Hospet is to check to/from Munirabad since it is only 4kms away from Hospet.

I'll have a look at a local map and see if perhaps it might even be more convenient to get to from Hampi on the return anyway. Doubt it though.
