Barog Station - Kalka-Shimla railway
Anybody have any idea of views from this area - Barog station in the Kalka-SHimla NG railway. Is there any snowfall there in January months?

It might have snow in Dec/ Jan , depends on your luck. Along the Kalka - Shimla raod, Barogh is one of the highest points which you will come across. There are nice walks to surrounding ridges for views, picnics.
Depending on where in Barogh you stay , the views outside the room might be obscured by trees.. |

Well it again depends on where u stay , the HP tourism hotel is pretty good, has a nice property.
Most of the hotels will have entry right from the main road itself , but the rooms could be far enough to not really hear the traffic. Additionally , the traffic flowing through Barogh has reduced substantially since the Solan Bypass opened. Just check whether the road is clear now , when i went up recently i.e the 15th August weekend, there had been a landslide which had blocked off the road near Barogh... |

I was wandering about wintertime, therefore enquired about the snow thing. Does the railway line remain open even in snowfall in winter or it closes down?

From Barogh to Kalka the railway line should not have any problems, unless there is a landslide. Barogh gets snow because of the height, the railways line runs from below Barogh , at a lower altitude..and then ofcourse keeps going lower and lower..

Actually, I was more interested in the railway. Can you provide any inputs from where I get good curves, arch bridges with mountainlandscape in and around Barog (walking distance).

The Barogh railway station is a short downhill walk....once u reach there u can walk on the side of the tracks either towards Solan or towards Kalka..
The Barogh tunnel in itself is the longest in the entire line , about 1 mile. |

I do not want to cross that tunnel. What if a train comes when I am crossing?

Understandable,
The frequency of the trains however is so low that it will prob not happen. Carry a torch..peek in and see and then decide. Most have a sizeable area between the wall and the tracks where u can walk...some dont.. The other tunnels are small, and you can walk in and out of them , some in seconds, some in a minute or two... You could always take a bus to say Solan, and walk back to Barogh along the tracks...going to Solan will take 20 odd minutes, and walking back depends on your pace... Just keep an eye on the weather... |

Hmmm.....now it seems pretty safe. Actually I want to photograph the railway in some pristine locations rather than staying at Shimla and loitering around the station area.

I figured that...!
Well i guess some walking will need to be done , it would have been different if u had ur own car , you could have kept stopping at walking a bit to various spots, but since thats not the case... |
