Bangalore-Delhi-Kalka-Shimla

I am basically from bangalore..

I have been planning to take up
1. flight BLR 16:40 to DEL 19:25(2:45)

then catch up:
2. Delhi - Kalka train
2311 HWH DLI KLK MAI 21:40 04:40
Train Type Distance(Kms)
COMPOSITE 0302
Class 1A

followed by
3.kalka - shimla narrow gauge scenic train early in the morning.

I have few questions over here:
1. The former train starts from Howrah, while I was wondering if anyone has taken up this train? And whether it really arrives on time in Delhi? What does this "composite" train mean??

2. Can I catch up this train at 21:40 with my flight arriving at 19:45?? How far is this railways station from airport? metro rail is currently available to take up from airport??

3.kalka-shimla train seems to be too exciting after knowing the number of tunnels it crosses over. What time this train service starts in the morning?? And I see no option to book tickets online for that journey.I bel it does not come under irctc?

Your flight arrival time and train time is a definite source of risk.

If you want to be sure of catching the train, either prepone to an early flight and plan for a later train.

You will be able to catch the train provided your flight reaches on time and you take a prepaid taxi from the airport.

Dont go for metro option - metro is not near the airport. You need to go all the way to Dwarka which I was told will take atleast half an hour and the metro.

Let me tell you my story of missing the train from Old Delhi Station. I was to catch a train leaving at 2230 hrs and my flight was to land at 1915 hrs. It finally handed at 2115 hrs and by the time I was out of airport, it was 2140 hrs. I took a Easycab (costlier than the normal prepaid) and reached station at 2240 hrs just to hear that the train pulled out of platform just seconds before.

The cabbie drove like a Micheal Schumacher ! So, you can conclude !

gee thanks for the info Arun. That was helpful. I will go for prepaid cab itself & just hope to board flight on time it is actually scheduled. I had some hopes with metro .just to bypass any traffic.
