bandra terminus, mumbai
hi all
for anyone who might be interested, my train terminated at bandra terminus today (train was from jodphur) and just so people know, it look about an hour to get to colaba (staying at Shelley's) and the cost was 450r on the meter (all the cabs use meter's here). hope that might be useful to someone somewhere! A

uve been overcharged i guess, the cabbie must have manipulated the meter, or the meter was probably on long before u got in ,
make sure the meters turned after u pop in, the average fair from bandra to colaba comes around rs 200 and if its peak time and terrible traffic then rs 300 or so.

WOW!!! What a rip off!!! The meter must not be working properly or the fare card that he showed you was printed with fake rates!!! It can never go to that amount even if you went twice the distance that you travelled. Hope you don't get any such taxis in the future!!! A trick to avoid them playing truant with their meters or fare cards is to ask them how much it will be approximately and then go by the meter, if he is cheating you then the two will not match once you reach your destination. Hope you have a safe and enjoyable time in Mumbai now that you are here.
Check out my Mumbai page for things to do and see on my external website at http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/3bf09/10ce6e/ Hope this helps. Cheers, Aadil.

Sheer daylight robbery !
If you're planning on staying in Mumbai for a while and will be using taxis and autorickshaws often, I suggest you get hold of their tariff cards - easily available with pavement vendors in the Churchgate/D.N. Road area - and carry it with you. Also, as mite recommended above, make sure that the meter is flagged up when you hire the taxi/auto and is flagged down only after you sit inside.
