##If Berths are available AFTER CHARTING, then, I think,

i) either the exact number of berths available would get displayed;

(or)

ii) the words "Charting Done"
-----------------
12702 HUSSAINSAGAR EX 12-8-2011 HYDERABAD DECAN MUMBAI CST GENERAL
S.No. Date (DD-MM-YYYY) Class - SL Class -3A
1 12- 8-2011 Charting Done Charting Done
.............................. .

(or)

iii) the words "NOT AVAILABLE"
---------------------
17230 SABARI EXP 12-8-2011 HYDERABAD DECAN TRIVANDRUM CNTL GENERAL
S.No. Date (DD-MM-YYYY) Class - SL Class -3A
1 12- 8-2011 NOT AVAILABLE NOT AVAILABLE
-----------------------------

but, I have NEVER seen "00" when queried for "Availability". Perhaps, this could be a 'bug'.

1. No. of berths may or may not be displayed online.
2. 00* is no bug. This number can be often viewed in IRCTC.

##Whenever you notice, "00" Availability, at the following link,
please inform me:
--------------
http://www.indianrail.gov.in/seat_Avail.html
-----------

because this is the Official Site of Indian Railways, in which I have got a very very strong belief.:-)

IRCTC itself acts as an subsidiary of Indian Railways and has still the monopoly in online ticket booking.
I prefer to look at any data from any website since all of them are directly fetched from the official server.
Be it trainenquiry.com, indianrail.gov.in, irctc.co.in, erail.in, indiarailinfo.com and so on.

##You may use IRCTC for booking your tickets. No issues.

##But, before doing that, check the availability at the IR.Site -in your words ".gov.in"

I believe that this is an option which should be left to the traveller or the person who is booking the ticket.
The data in the official server as stated here as 'gov.in is itself erroneous and misleading at times. So are the basic rules and regulations stated in the same.

An user may continue to use any website he may feel like, till the time all of them are fetching data from a single official server.
