At Kalka, does the Motor Rail Car wait for the Howrah-Kalka Mail to arrive?

Yes, per this thread info, RMC has 14 seats. But for you the good news is that the Booking period for RMC has not started yet. It's booking opens only 30 days before (and not 90 days like other trains incl. Shivalik Dlx). So, you have a fair chance to book your tickets on 16-Jul-09 at 8 AM IST for this RMC train.

BTW, I have just checked the availability for 10-Aug (latest date for booking considerng the 30 day booking), and it has 10 seats left, but 14-Aug is a diff. story considering it's the Independence day eve!.

As we note this, a lot other people would also be working out the same thing. So, you may want to logon to irctc.co.in around 7:40/45 on 16-Jul, put in all the details that you want to give and hit the book button the moment it hits 8 AM. If you have option, you may want somebody to go to the counter also, as the payment has to be cleared first online, which delays things.

Let us know if you choose to and then, manage to secure the tickets for RMC .

I, wife and my two daughters( 13 Yr and 6Yr) planning to visit Shimla around 24th Sep'09.

Tickets on Shivalik Dlx Express is sold out for those days. I would love to travel by this train, Motor car may be next option. But irctc.com says ARP out of reach.

I wish to travel to Shimla in a Toy train for my daughters sack. Are there more Fast Toy train apart from Shivalik Palace Tourist ?

Since you have visited Simla, You might know good Hotels around Simla, I wish to stay near Mall, which Budget Hotels ( around RS 3000 for 3 adults and one Child) are available ?

so we have a friend from duliajan.how is whether there.shimla is well connected with kalka and chandigarh.road is faster than train.if tickets are problem try on your trip back from shimla.
there some other local trains also and are very cheap.seats are vaccant on these,being local non tourist trains.

Your post title says that you "picked up" the thread, but I think you did not "read" it.

Just above your post, I made a post (also quoted below) which says ARP for Rail Motor Car (Trn# 101) is 30 days. And, I think, this was referred in previous pages of this thread also somewhere.

So, am sure you can work out the date on which you should book the ticket to travel on 24-Sep-09 !

Weather here at Duliajan,ASSAM is not always same, 2/3 days continously hot and then for next 3/4 days it will rain,becomes colder.

100 percent safe.but take from some travel agency only.
dont worry about police,criminals in uniform,they would be busy collecting there hafta from road side vendors and poor taxiwalas.

I think not. The AC coaches of all express trains departing from Howrah will be near the tail such as .....from tail end..AC First CLass, then AC 2-tier, then AC-3tier, then Sleeper coaches. Passengers boarding from HWH for AC classes have to walk less thus..but while arriving at Kalka, you have to cover more....though the train is cut short..first in Delhi and then at Chandigarh.

Yes it does. in fact even the rail motor waits for HWH Kalk mail..

All trains for Shimla wait for the Delhi trains coz locals do not travel by train to Shimla as it happens to be a longer journey (by train)

Any idea of the First Class carriage of the 251 Kalka-Shimla Mail (scheduled dep 6 a.m.)? Is it like the ones of Shivalik Delux?

Actually, I will have a stoppover at Barog for two nights in between....and might not get get tickets for Shivalik Delux for this break journey (dont know if they allow Kalka-Barog and Barog-Shimla tickets on Shivalik Delux).....hence considering the 251 Kalka-Shimla Mail after alighting from 2311 HWH-KLK Mail.

251 is the best option in terms of comfort and cost; ticket costs Rs 220/- and one gets to travel in 1st class (non ac) which is almost phased out rest of the country.

I travelled on the 5th of last month and really enjoyed the experience.
