Are South Indian trains usually on time?
I know that in the North in winter trains are often late - but have no idea about South..
My train from Hospet should arrives to Bangalore at 6:10 AM on 25 Nov. At first I've planned to spend a day in Bangalore and move to Mysore in the evening. But as 25 Nov is Sunday there is an obviouse reason to get there earlie I've found 2 trains to Mysore from the same station - at 7:00 AM and 7:35 AM. I think if my train from Hospet will arrive in time - I can catch one of Mysore train... So what about delays of South indian trains? Thanks in advance ![]()

Fog and such weather conditions aside, I don't think trains in any part of the country and more punctual than the others.
Long distance trains have a greater chance of delay than shorter distance ones. |

If you look at the complete schedule for that train you'll see that it's not a very long-distance train (only 600km), and there's a lot of slack built into the timetable to allow for delays. (e.g. between Anantapur and Dharmavaram the timetable allows 100 minutes to travel 34km). The station before Bangalore is Yesvantpur - it stops here at 05:16. From there it is only 6km to Bangalore, yet the timetable allows almost an hour. There are no guarantees, of course, but it's unlikely that this train is going to be so late that you'll miss your connection to Mysore. (But book the 07:35, just to be sure. ) |

another option if your inbound train is running late is to get off at an earlier station (say Bangalore Cantonment), wait for the Mysore train to arrive from bangalore and board it. You need to make sure that the routes overlap and trains stop.

Busses to Mysore leave frequently outside the Bangalore trainstation. They take 2,5 - 3 hours.

Thanks for everyone for the info and advice :-) I decide to bye tickets for the 6:35 train (it has FC - so I have an oppotrunity to test this class too :-) ) - the price is not high, so even if we'll be late and miss the train - it will be not a big loss.. and then we'll try to catch a bus. :-)

A problem I have seen is that if a major train gets into small delays a lot in can be downgraded in priority so much, that towards the end it is treated as a local train or worse, and has to give the right of way to almost every other train. I do not know what the criteria is within the system, but I have seen that happening even to a Rajdhani (train from and to Delhi with the higest priority usually).
