Angry Anyone else struggling to book on IRCTC?

Is anyone else having trouble with online booking of train tickets at the moment? I've tried several times in the last few days and filled everything in and just before it takes me to the select payment type page, I get a message saying
'Unable To Retrieve Due To Communication failure ' each time and it takes me back to the first booking screen.

Is this normal, a temporary glitch or what? I've never booked online before so it's all new but I am sure I'm filling it all in correctly.

I'm trying to book the Avantika Exp 2961 (from Mumbai to Ujain) for this Tuesday 28 Feb. I've already missed out on availability in 2AC and 3AC because of this so am resorting to booking into SL in the hope that I can upgrade once I'm on the train or something rather than risk not having a bunk at all. Is that the right approach.... at this rate I'm worried that all the Sleepers will go too if I don't manage to get the e-ticket thing working and can't be sure that I'd then get in on tourist or taktal quota once I'm there as I arrive from London less than 24 hours before I have to leave on the train.

Heeeeelp!

Its a temporary glitch; keep trying. I'm sure you'll get the ticket.

Thanks Shimla - fingers crossed!

Should I book for Sleeper even though I'd prefer 2AC - what's the chance of upgrading once I'm on the train?

If 2AC is still under RAC, then book it. Else, book a confirmed berth in SL. Then, on the day of the journey you can check whether there's any chance of your getting a berth in 2AC.

you are not alone with that website, i had exactly the same errors as you and have had those errors every time i have tried to do it since 2004 and every other time i have given up and gone to the office instead

this week however i persevered and after about 90 minutes i finally got my tickets, they've not been delivered yet though!!!!!

cheers
