I had the same feelings about the site prior to Axis Gateway coming onto it too, Sama! It drove me nuts - no matter which gateway I tried it never worked for me. And Citibank is supposed to have an 'association' with my Oz bank too - never works with that one either. Not much of an 'association' or whatever the term is, in my book.

Hi. I shall be travelling for my first time alone in India next month. I have been trying to book my train tickets online (after reading the guide on this site, i need to book them in advance while they are still available!) BUT I am experiencing the same problems as you guys. I have tried using all the different gateway options for my credit card but all fail. I have tried again, double checked all the details but still failing. Is this a persistent problem? I am getting a bit worried as I am relying on the trains to get where i need to be.

Hi guys. After reading seat61.com I read you could book tickets for Indian rail travel through Cleartrip.com. I thought I may as well give it a go as I was getting nowhere with the official website, it worked fine. It was easier to understand and I have had no problems with it taking my payment. It has emailed me my Etickets. So as far as I can tell I now have my rail travel (long distance) booked for my trip! If your still having problems with the official site i recommened you give clear trip a go.

I couldn't pay a ticket via CITI PG today either, but the Axis PG worked just fine. I'm using a VISA card, or actually VISA Electron, as it charges directly my bank account.

I'm not very fond with the Verified by Visa system, as with my bank I have to use a one-time security code from a code card, and as I'm going on a 8-or-so-month trip, I might run out of the codes and getting a new card to a foreing country will be a hassle and cost money :/

On the other hand, extra safety with online payments is usually a positive thing.

I've searched this thread, but....

even tho I've booked train tix before for my last two trips, I can't remember (and can't find a definitive answer!) if I can book 90 days in advance of travel date or 60 days.

or is it different for different trains now?

also, FYI...I read some previous posts about needing a "secure code" for Mastercard and Visa in order to book. well, I tried getting those through the mastercard and visa sites, however, it ain't that easy. for one, my bank was not listed on the site so couldn't do it for Visa, and the Mastercard site is buggy, so couldn't do that one either.

Sama,
I am going to India for dec, Jan and have managed to book most of my trains exactly 90 days in advance (5 total all over India).
However I have not been able to book 2017 Shatabdi from New Delhi to Haridwar at all which is now down to 45 days!!! so I was wondering the same thing re differing booking periods.
A listing of the advance booking periods for all trains would be a helpful adition to the site I feel
regards Sri Nath

Sama,
There appears to be some technical issue with IRCTC re all trains Delhi to Hariwar between 4th Dec and 22nd Dec. If you want to go after 22nd looks like you might be able to book it. I have already started 2 threads (both gone cold) trying to establish why no trains (or at least all web sites say no trains!!) Delhi Haridwar for those dates. I want 19th Dec. So far no one has been able to shed any light on this other than confirm that what I say is correct. No reply to multiple queries from IRCTC for over 4 weeks!! very confusing
Regards Sri Nath

Exclamation Booking Rail tickets from abroad...

Hi Guy's

Had loads of problems booking rail tickets from the uk online but finally cracked it!

If you book tickets through IRCTC then:

A) use axis pg

B) if payment is declined it is probebly because your bank has blocked your card. once un blocked it will work!

Thought I'd just add that I was having the same problem, looked at this thread and successfully booked a train from Delhi to Agra. Used the Axis gateway, only one which worked. Thanks for the help. This will be my first trip to India, will be me, my partner and our 15 year old daughter, should be a challenge!
