Anyone else having problems paying for tickets with the IRCTC for the last few days?

Hi,

I have been trying to book tickets on IRCTC for the last couple of days, with no luck! Everything seems fine up to the point it starts processing my card details, at the last step a message appears saying my expiry date is wrong or my funds are insufficient. I have checked with my bank and they say the payment demand never reached them. I have used this card buying tickets before, so I know I'm using the right payment gateway (CITI PG). I have also tried using my other card with the same result! Is anyone else having this problem? And does anyone know how I can sort this out?

Really do not know what the problem is.. From 1st Aug 2009, Reserve Bank of India has made it mandatory to have additional authorisation (like visa secure) for online payment of cards - the details are available in IRCTC site itself. Hope your card has that.

Me too, tried to book tickets online but in vain.
I tried it 6 times and every time money was credited from my card but the ticket was never booked. Later the money got debited though.
May be we'll have to book it in-person.

I had the same problem yesterday, so I called their customer service and was told that international credit cards (which I have) can only be used with Citi pg and Axis pg. It still didn't work with citi pg, so I tried axis pg and it worked. So try axis pg and see if it works for you.......... Good luck!

Hi, This problem may persist if your card is not registered online with VISA/Maestro for Online payment. As per new RBI guidelines , the card has to be enabled for online payment by additional security features/ passwords given by Service providers. So u can register it..If CITI bank card then u can get Ipin from CITIBANK online,, other cards - then from VISA/Maestro site.

Thanks for that! We have tried Axis PG and it's worked- what a relief! Don't understand what the problem is with CITI PG, it worked fine until a few days ago!

Thanks again- far less stressed now!

There are many gate-ways on this site. Some time one gateway work another fails I think this happened due to Extra Load on one Gateway. So if someone face problem in one gateway then try another. But ICICI gateway is worst.

..hm..it seems that these secure codes get more and more mandatory, I booked a JetAir ticket and the secure code was also needed!

I'll need to book some tix in November, so glad to know that the site STILL sucks after almost 2 years of non-use on my part!

No Sama, the site doesn't suck - it did for me too up to around 16 months ago and then the Axis gateway came and finally my Visa card worked!

The RBI guidelines are only for cards originating in India. Overseas cards will still work, without that extra stuff e.g. Verified by Visa.

One other hiccup I did have recently and will mention here because it's useful information, is that not long ago I bought train tickets for Mr K. The tickets were naturally in his name and I used my Oz Visa Card for the buying. The first time the ticket was purchased normally but from then on I couldn't get any payment gateway to work. I tried about six times altogether. In my email the next morning was a message from Australian bank for me to contact them. It turned out they had suspected Mr K of misusing my card, and so stopped all payments. They did not realize I was still living in India - a short telephone conversation, all cleared up, and straight away I was finally able to get the next ticket without a problem.
It has been often mentioned before, but if you are bringing an overseas card with you, make sure you notify your bank prior to departure that you will be in India.

Aishah, for my 2nd and 3rd trip I remember having a helluva time booking tix online....one time they took my AMEX card, then another time not, then I had to use another card, then I had to try each gateway, then it took my AMEX card again. it was a pain in the neck!

I had a SecureV, while traveling wanted to do a booking via internet,I had forgotten the password and as result could not contiue transaction.Got home and disabled SecureV.Train tickets that I booked now were with no SecureV (Disabled), wife had to supply SecureV password as hers was Enabled. So maybe disableing the SecureV might still work with train booking.
As far as finishing of booking, clicked on ? beside Bank (gateway?) and if had our type of card went on with booking.maybe one ticket had a little bit of a hassle
