Hi,mates! Recent days I will go to Chennai.
On 6 July, 2011 I went to Chinchwad Railway Station for reservation of 10 July, 2011's journey, the staff told me that I had to be in the waiting list(no. 16th), then the staff also told me I could buy TAKAL ticket 2 days before my departure day.
I had searched the TAKAL ticket's explanation, it's said the TAKAL ticket will be expensive.
So I have only 2 majoy questions:
1) How expensive will be the TAKAL ticket?
2) Any instructions for me to buy the TAKAL ticket so that I could surely get on the train to avoid missing my business trip?
I could learn many things here and from you. Thanks again for any kind help from you friends!

Well it is expensive but you will get a confirmed seat. What else any one wants in his trip? The rate will be according to the class of travel. To get the ticket for sure try some other websites like www.makemytrip.com in the very first hour for online booking.
Use GPS while you travel.......

ClearTrip takes foreign cards http://www.cleartrip.com/.

If it's not working, it's because the IRCTC (Indian Railways) servers are overloaded, so keep trying, at different hours. (Note the Tatkal quota and like the staff told you goes on sale at 8AM two days before departure; it will tend to sell out in a jiffy, and so will indeed cause server overload at that hour, because everyone's trying to get their Tatkal tickets in. But one can try... It's also not available on all trains, or everywhere along all routes, though I guess say Chennai-Pune and on major trains it should be. I'm not currently clear on what route you mean, nor could I answer if any route will have Tatkal available if you tell me.)

Thank you, my friend Machadinha! Your information is very very helpful. Then I decide to ask a travel agent to buy the TATKAL for me.

Yes, probably the best approach, set them to work on it. They tend to be handy at scoring these tickets, that's also part of why that server becomes overloaded (They may also and as well send some "boys" over to the actual ticket counter to procure them the moment selling opens -- and by the bulk, again.)

Good luck with it

Agents are debarred from booking Tatkal tickets between 8 am to 9 am.
Cleartrip itself acts as an agent to IRCTC and to my assumption you cannot book a tatkal through Cleartrip before 9 am.
Try to get a PRS Counter Tatkal Ticket (Reason: Agents are not allowed to book tatkal before 9 am)

Your information is different. By the way, what is PRS? Where can I find such a place called PRS Counter Tatkal Ticket?

PRS Counter are the counters which you would find mostly in the railway stations which issues reserved tickets.
Hence the quoted statement means Tatkal Ticket obtained from a reserved ticket counter.

Maybe I will ask an agent to do this. How can railway staff know a person standing in front of the counter is from an agent? Or how can railway department know the order on-line is from an agent?

As per new rules you would have to produce your identity card while booking a tatkal ticket over the counters.
Agents who stand in front of the counter usually over charge for the tickets and are referred as touts. (Quite different from IRCTC Agent)

PS:- Agents are barred from booking online between 8-9 am.

It is indeed correct that the Indian Railways are (reportedly) trying their hardest to stop this bulk-booking problem by travel agents. It just messes up the entire system (cf. those eternal and massive waitlists, which then mysteriously evaporate shortly before a train's departure), and then besides they're making a windfall when that was never the intention (since again they can now sell those "unavailable," or indeed Tatkal, or whatever, tickets to willing customers for pretty much anything they want. Conversely, someone recently said here they may somehow go under the going price, even. Needless to say, neither the Railways are very happy with.)

Dip will have the latest on it; I don't. (I've not been there since 1.5 years; and then besides I don't live there nor am I a native. Just a goofy foreigner and occasional visitor, myself )
