Amritsar to Dharamsala?
What's the quickest route from Amritsar to Dharamsala? Either by train/bus/plane. Is there an airport near Dharamsala?
thanks! |

Hello! I need some clarification. I will be staying in Dharamsala for 2 weeks and hope to take a few days to see Amritsar. From your responses to a previous inquiry on this topic, it looks like I can take a bus from Kangra which is near Dharamsala (how near? Can I walk? How long will it take?) to Pathankot, and then a train from Pathenkot to Amritsar. Is this correct? How long in hours would you say this whole trip is?
Thanks so much -- sorry I am unable to make heads or tales of the schedules! Much appreciated. |

In August 2003 there was one ordinary bus from McLeod to Amristar and lots of them going to pathankot, then in pathankot you'll find plenty of buses to amristar, just ask at the counter next to the Autorickshaw stand and they will tell you the exact timetables.
As i love the train took the bus till pathankot and from there we went by train till Amristar (not so many trains). In my experience is much you save time going by bus (you'll save more time by jeep!) but in the train you can really enjoy the landscapes of India. Take in mind that i'm always talking about ordinary buses (ouch!) and 2nd class trains. See you, uribaba |

Thanks Steven for the Delhi/Amtitsar - Dharamsala via Kangra Valley Railway link. Question: How far is Jammu Tawi from Dharamsala? Do you take a jeep or something there?
cheers! |

You will read and hear about the Gaggal airport in the Kangra Valley that is close to Dharamsala and there are flights on Mondays and Wednesdays. Fact is this particular airport is normally 'clouded in' and when it is open, only digniteries are allowed to use it.
Take my advice, if travelling from New Delhi, take the overnight train to Pathenkot and catch a taxi to Dharamsala - on a good day abour 2 and a half hours!! |

thanks! i always wondered about that airport near dharamsala. that'd be really convenient. i was wondering about getting there from amritsar because there are new direct flights from toronto (where i'm from) to amritsar, which would be preferable to landing in delhi...but 2.5 hours from pathankot is great!

Thanks for all the info! Does anyone know how far Amritsar is from Pathenkot? I'm trying to figure out approx. travel time from Dharamsala to Amritsar. Sounds like a taxi from Dharamsala to Pathenkot is the way to go! And then a train? Thanks!
