ajmer to udaipur?

I keep trying to book a ticket from Ajmer to Udaipur ??Chetak Express but keep being told that there aren't any train. That can't be right!?? Does anyone know if there really is or is there some work going on the track?
Help!

My search of the India Rail site identifies the 9766 Lake City Express as a daily train Udaipur - Jaipur with a stop at Aljmer. Note today's schedule for below:

Aussie 5, that info from the website is incorrect, (nothing new for the Indian Railways website).

The line from Chittaurgarh to Udaipur has been converted to broad gauge (Ajmer - Chittaurgarh is metre gauge).

nikinoo, either change your itinerary to go from Delhi, Agra, Ranthambhore or Jaipur to Udaipur, or get a day train to Chittaurgarh then another train to Udaipur, or get a bus.

thank for the replies! The website gets me confused everytime. Will go to Chittaurgarh then see about how to go onwards! Is it easy to hire car and driver in most places? This is looking like a good option!

But both Ajmer and Udaipur are located on National Highway No.8 and the distance must definitely be less than 189+115=304 Kms., and perhaps there must not be any problem in getting a Good Bus or Good Car, that suits your pocket!!!!!!

How easy would it be do you think to hire car and driver in Ajmer or any major Rajasthani town? Best to book or ahead or 'do-able' on the day?

The Indianrail.gov.in site shows a train number 2992 from Ajmer Jn to Udaipur departing at 1555 hrs and arriving at 2115 hrs at Udaipur.

Been trying since hours to book 03 seats on the same (chair car) for 28th October and the message I keep getting is that the date is 'The dates given were outside ARP'..now what does that mean?

ARP => Advance Reservation Period.

Basically means the period during which the advance booking is open. Most of the trains has it as 90 days, for some it is 30 days, and for few it is 10 days. While calculating this date, leave the journey date of the desired train from it's source and deduct 90 days from such date.

E.g. if I want to board train 0001 from stn X on 31-Dec, and the train starts from it's source the day before, deduct ARP days from 30-Dec (not 31-Dec).

For the trn# 2992, I just looked up availability in http://www.indianrail.gov.in/inet_srcdest_names.html. It shows availability till 8-Oct-09, so I infer that the max date you can book is 8-Oct-09, so it has an ARP of 30 days. Isn't that easy?
