Aurangabad has plenty of hotels. You'll probably be able to find a place without difficulty. I like the city, while many people don't find it compelling. The old markets are fun and what the locals call the "Mini Taj" is worth visiting, especially if you have seen the Taj Mahal.

On the way to Ellora, be sure to spend some time at Daulatabad Fort. Do yourself a favor and hire a guide to take you into the tunnels where invaders were repelled by boiling oil. Hiking all the way to the summit above the fort is well worth it, too. Spend a mid-afternoon - evening there. It's a wonderful place.

Aurangabad is an excellent city to gain experience in India. Besides Daulatabad Fort, Aurangabad has it's own set of caves similar to Ellora, a number of Moslem sites, a thriving market (also silk cooperatives)-- you'll meet travellers who can give you good advice about travelling in India.
A cheap, secure, and clean hotel near the bus station and the center of town is the Devpriya hotel- an odd architectural curiosity with rooms under 200 rupees. However, your guide book will give you a thorough list of hotels at a range of costs. By the time you'be spent a couple of days in Aurangabad you'll be champing at the bit to see more of India. Cheers!

There is a row of hotels in Jalgoan, I think we stayed at one called `Galaxy`. There are buses from the bus station next door at 0700-0730 to Ajanta and another bus from Ajanta to Aurangabad about 1700 getting you into town about 1930-2000.

Enjoy

We stayed at the Plaza hotel in Jalgaon, just up the street on the left hand side, a couple of minutes walk from the railway station.

It was spotlessly clean and is highly recommended in most of the guide books.

As Andy S says, you can take a bus to Ajanta (about one and a half hours) spend some time there, and then take another bus on to Aurangabad.

In Aurangabad we stayed at the Shree Maya near the Tourist Office. If you have the time try and spend a whole day seeing Ellora, Daulatabad Fort, and Rauza (Aurangzeb's simple tomb). You can take buses or hire an auto-rickshaw for the day.

I can also highly recommend the Plaza hotel in Jalgaon which is very near the Station. In Aurangabad i tried the Shree Maya, but it was full so stayed round the corner instead at the Regal Court or something like that which was OK. I did a day trip to Ajanta from Aurangabad and found it very rushed and wished i had done it from Jalgaon instead. From Aurangabad to Jalgaon i took a bus and it took just over 4 hours. The caves are amazing tho!

I stayed directly at a hotel near Ajanta at some Village 10 minutes drive away from the caves three years ago and it suited me fine. (can't remember the name of the village; was basically a truck stop). At the time there were two hotel options near the village and one hotel directly at the caves. If I remember correctly I think we took a bus from Jalgaon to Ajanta and went over Bhusewar on the way back. Bhusewar was a great town- I enjoyed it a lot. Have fun.

Hii
Thank you all for the reply. The plan I am making is like this:
Mumbai-aurangabad(ajanta ellora)-
jabalpur(kanha stay in kanha)- bandhavgarh-khajuraho-orccha- delhi
(fly back from delhi)
My questions are
what all of you think of the plan?

I checked the indian railways website it is hard to get a link from aurangabad to jabalpur so I decided to make jalgoan the base for ajanta ellora (or at least catch a train from jalgoan to jabalpur)
any suggestion on this will be really welcomed
greetings

From Ellora, you can go to Chalisgaon, which is nearer than Jalgaon, and catch the train to Jabalpur.

Another recommended hotel at Jalgaon is Hotel Siddhartha, which is a five minute walk from the railway station.

Bhusaval is a lousy town, do not even think of staying there.

Thank you all, I have planned according to the suggestions .
this way
Mumbai-aurangabad(ajanta day1)
day 2 -aurangabad-ellora-jalgoan
Night catch a train to jabalpur
day 3 jabalpur onwards
Once I reach jabalpur I shall book with some tourist lodge at kanha , they said they shall pick me up at jabalpur and drive to kanha.
Now to the next lap of the problem
any one has any suggestion for good travel agents for kanha-bandhvgarh-khajuraho(only road transport)?
greetings
