Agra to Udaipur train August 2012

Hi there!

This is my first post as I am planning my first trip to India this summer!

I am trying to book the train below on the cleartrip website for August but can't seem to do it!! Once I click on the 'check availability and book' tab, rather than showing the availability like it has for other trains I have booked, it shows the message 'Could not get current availability. Please try again'. I have tried several different websites but get similar problems. One website told me 'train cancelled'.

Does anyone have any info on this train? Is it still running? If so, where can I book?

Name Kurj Udz Sup
Number 12965
Starts Khajuraho
Ends Udaipur City
Days M,T,W,Th,F,Sa,Su

Am really trying to avoid going back to Delhi to get to Udaipur! I am a single mum travelling alone with a 6 year old so need as easy and as direct a route as possible!

The train number changes to 19665 from July 13th 2012. I think this is not yet updated on Cleartrip.
Kedar Janani Devasthan, Mt Abu - Udaipur, Bharatpur, Agra, Gwalior, Orchha, Jhansi

This train will change number to 19965 on 13th July. See this thread.

Udaipur-Khajuraho direct train

It doesn't look as if Cleartrip have picked up on this change yet. They don't list every train. It should be listed by irctc but you would need an Amex card for this.

UPDATE - It is listed under the new number by irctc.
The inconvenience caused is deeply regretted.

Blog 2013 Indian Railways ARP changed to 60 days on 1st May 2013.

There is another option that should remove the uncertainty, and it can be argued that this option is better that the direct train from Agra, it certainly has more and later availability than the Kajuraho-Udaipur train.

The Mewar Express (train 12963) departs from Bharatpur daily at 21:42 and gets to Udaipur at 07:20.

Bharatpur is 55km from Agra, but only 25km from Fathepur Sikri (30km from Agra), so if you got a taxi from Agra to Fathepur Sikri, and then on to Bharatpur (you'd have to pay for the taxi drivers return to Agra), and stopped for a meal at Bharatpur before the train, it could work out well, the driver would look after your luggage whilst you visit Fathepur Sikri.

It could also be argued that Agra (and FS) are best done on a day tour from Bharatpur, and also remember that Bharatpur is actually a really nice and chilled out kind of place, the perfect place to rest for a day or two after all the travel to get to India, and the business of Delhi and Agra.

Thanks, for the quick replies! I have been trying to register with the irctc website and now seem to have hit another brick wall

To complete the registration you need to verify a mobile number. When I enter my UK based mobile number the website automatically adds +91 to the start of it (which I believe is specific to India?) so I don't recieve the verification SMS, hence can't complete the registration. Any advice on how to get around this?

Thanks Steven_ber, this option sounds pretty good. I'll have a look into it. Have you got a rough idea of how much I would expect to pay for a car and driver for the whole 55km?
