Agra to Ranthambore: drive or train????

I am trying to figure out the easiest/quickest way to get from Agra to Ranthambore. I wouldn't mind having a car/driver, but I have heard that the roads on this route are very bad. HAS ANYONE DONE THIS DRIVE? HOW LONG DID IT TAKE?

The other option is a morning drive from Agra to Bharatpur stopping at Fatehpur Sikhri.....then catching the 10:53am train from Bharatpur to Sawai Madhopur. How early would we need to leave Agra, briefly stop at Fatehpur Sikhri and catch this train?

THANKS!!!

I have done this trip by road. With a stopover at Fatehpur S for two hours and another couple of rest stops along the way for refreshments (another two hours) - the trip took about 8 hours by road. The road is bad in places but its a fantastic experience.

Your second option would need you to start latest by 6 AM from Agra if you want to spend quality time at Fatehpur Sikri - and NO time in Bharatpur. No idea how long the train trip takes though.

How about seeing Fatehpur Sikri at the end of day 1, then staying overnight in a hotel in Fatehpur Sikri? I assume there are hotels?

Train 9038 (Tu, Th, Sa & Su) and train 9040 (M, W, F.) depart Fatehpur Sikri at 06:01 and get to Sawai Madhoppur at 09:25. (2A, 3A, SL)

Good suggestion steven, but I doubt there are too many hotels in Fatehpur Sikri.
