Agra to Umaria

Hi people.

I'm planning a trip to Bandhavgarh and i will be leaving from agra. My next stop is Varanassi so i figure it's more logical to do Agra-Bandhavgarh-Varanassi then to do Agra-Varanassi-Bandhavgarh. In my guidebook (RG) it says that there is a train going from Delhi or Agra to Umaria. However, i cannot find it on the indian railway website. The train number is suppsed to be 8478 and it is called Utkal Express. Can anybody help me out on this one?

Train 8478 (Kalinga Utkal express) departs Nizamuddin (Delhi) daily at 12:50, then departs Agra Cant at 16:15, and gets to Umaria at 06:15 the next morning.

Fares from Agra. (from Delhi will cost a little more)

2-tier air-con = Rs 1154
3-tier air-con = Rs 741
Sleeper class (not air-con) = Rs 273

Thanks a lot steven. I don't know where you found this cause i searched many times on the india rail website and i couldn't find it. That train is going to get rid of many problems regarding getting to the national park

I've just got back from Bandhavgarh. There is a station at Umaria but it is very small and not well served. We ended up using Katni instead, it is much better connected both to the north, via Jhansi & Gwalior, and also directly to Varanasi (we actually arrived directly from Varanasi to Katni). The road trip from Katni to Tala (the village near the national park) takes 2 1/2 hours, the road has just been upgraded and apart from some stretches is good. We were actually a little disappointed though with Bandhavgarh itself but that's another story (let me know if you want more info!)

Hi there Kate.

Yes i would love to hear about your trip there as i'm planning to go there for 4 days. How come were you disapointed with the park in itself? I hear this is maybe the most beatifull park in India.
