Hello everybody!

I am not sure whether it is proper for me to start a new thread on above captioned subject. I have searched IM Forums and had come across various posts pertaining to this issue. I found that nowhere in these threads, the issue of advance booking of railway retiring rooms has been fully resolved. Most of the cases, the threads end with incomplete and hazy information.

What I knew is that no advance booking railway retiring room is permitted and that passenger has to approach the appropriate authority to get the booking on reaching at the destination point. The traveler is required to prove that he a genuine passenger (on production of tickets etc.) and booking is given on "first-come-first-serve" basis, subject to availability.

However, of late, I am getting some conflicting information contrary to what has been stated above. I was told that now-a-days, Railways are not only allowing advance booking of retiring rooms, these facilities are now available even for online booking (at least for few of the stations). I could not get any confirmation or denial on this matter. Can any one in IM, specially our experts on Railways, explain the correct situations and let me know whether Railways are now allowing at least advance booking (on production of copies of ticket and on payment of money in advance) for the Railway Retiring Rooms? Thanks.

It's been said here of late that advance booking of retiring rooms may be opening up yes.

I know nothing more about it. A bit of searching the web might indeed suggest it is so, or perhaps only for regional divisons.

I have indeed heard of Mumbai (don't remember which station in Mumbai though), Chennai and Nagpur and a few other stations going in for Online booking of Retiring rooms. This can apparently be done while booking the journey ticket. Weather this is only for PRS booked tickets or online as well is unclear.

This is the latest that I could find: http://articles.timesofindia.indiati...g-rooms-nagpur

Online booking of IR Retiring rooms for some major stations

West Central Railway says that for some major stations online booking of retiring room is possible from the other linked major station.

E.g. if you are traveling from HWH to NDLS, you can see the Retiring Room matron of Howrah and ask him/her to book you a retiring room at NDLS, subject to availability.

If I understand correctly, the room can be booked as early as ARP starts.

List of stations for which retiring rooms booking is computerized, updated June 2013

Question: I understood that NDLS Yatriniwas was converted to Ginger Hotel and handed over to Tata. Is there a separate retiring room now at NDLS?
Did you wear the other person's shoe today?

Retiring rooms of indian railways

This year indian railways has started the online booking for the retiring rooms for various stations. This is very good for the tourists who have to catch train late night.

But at some stations the online booking system is yet not available. Their still have to be a manual booking of the rooms.

Hence i was wondering if there is any workaround where i can book those rooms by any other means or someone will book for me and i can pay them.
To be specific i stay in pune and i wanted the room to be booked at ernakulam junction.

Please enlighten me.

Hello all,
I would like to know if i can check in to the retiring room after the time that they have specified. Actually the check in time mentioned is 21st OCT 2000 (ie)8.00PM IST. But i can make it to the station only by 2.00 AM, 22nd OCT,2014. Is that OK? My check out time is on 22nd OCT, 20.00. Will they allow me at 2 am or will they cancel my order and give it to someone else? Can anyone help me.

Smile Online booking of retiring room

Hi everybody,

For booking retiring rooms in advance online, I find there is option for only dormitory type rooms in major stations.

How is it possible to stay in dorm-room when I will be travelling with mu family?

Can anyone tell me whether Double/Tripple-bed Retiring rooms are available in major stations. AND how far is it safe to stay in retiring rooms with family?

Staying a night in a retiring room will be cheaper than a hotel as well as convenient to catch an early morning train.

Sayan
