Dear Enigma,
Although,i don't see how it is possible for the reservation clerk to miss taking charges when infact the system is computerised. ##Even though PRS is computerised, the collection of Reservation Fees after "Break Journey" is done manually; hence, there could be omission, sometimes!!!! |

Dear sumishtha,
##You cannot break your journey at Allahabad, because, as per the prevailing rules, you MUST name the Station where you would like to break your journey at the time of making the Reservation which is NOT possible through IRCTC but only through PRS Counter, so that your berth will be booked only upto the Station, where you would like to break your journey and it can thus be allotted to any other needy passenger. Then, you can also make your onward reservation from such Break Journey point. |

Why dont you take the 2471 Swaraj Express from Mumbai directly to Pathankot Or Take Golden Temple or Paschim Express to Ambala.

Ok. It would qualify for the break journey but I am not sure whether you would get a confirmed berth for the Agra to Delhi leg. I would still go ahead and book Golden temple or Swaraj as there are huge cancellations in those trains even Current waitlist of 200 may get a confirmed berth by the time of your travel date.Or atleast 1057 has a WL of 69 which in all probability should get you a confirmed berth. Though I would keep the Tickets to Agra.

Dear Gaurav,
It would qualify for the break journey but I am not sure whether you would get a confirmed berth for the Agra to Delhi leg. ##Since he wants to break his journey in New Delhi, he can take any train from Agra to New Delhi (**including IIS), provided he had made his initial booking upto AGC only!!!! |

The 0131 "Special" terminates in Agra.
---- If you have reserved your ticket upto New Delhi, you CAN take any train that leaves Agra for New Delhi before 23.30 hrs. ON THE SAME DAY, that is, 20th October,2009 & waiting for the connecting train DO NOT amounts to Break Journey. ------ But if you are taking the connecting train on 21.10.2009, say, for example, 1057, whose scheduled departure is 00.18hrs. it amounts to BREAK JOURNEY, in which case, FRESH RESERVATION FEES will be collected from you. |

Hello Kunal,
I have reserved BOJ tickets a few times, and find it really cool way to 1.) Explore multiple places(maximum 2 at intermediate stations) ,while paying for a single ticket, that of starting to last destination (reservation fees apart) 2.)Taking a break from the long journey - long journeys get boring and tiresome, even in A.C. class. However, when you are not planning to take a break journey(less than 24 hours halt), it is infact better for you as you'd not be charged reservation charges for the onwards journey (From Agra to Delhi in this particular case). So,I do think you should purchase a single ticket to Pathankot, with only a break (perhaps to go visit Taj Mahal) -- NOT Break journey, and it would be good as you don't pay reservation charges again from Agra to Pathankot. I had some doubts over when they collect reservation charges, and when they don't, and as per VSP, it is upto the clerk to collect the charges, but I still don't think that they have left it to the clerk's decision , and i still have doubts as to why in one of my tickets, I was breaking journey for less than 24 hours and still charged reservation fees again, and why in another instance, I was breaking for more than 24 hours and still not charged reservation fees. Really doubt that they haven't yet automated that in the system to charge/not charge automatically based on the rules. One important thing - and this also I realised after actually booking tix myself - BOJ saves you cost only if your entire journey -- including all the onwards journeys -- are in a single class. If you have different classes in different legs, then you are charged on point to point basis for each leg and you lose out on the telescopic fares. Cheers -Nishu |
