If you mean the length of the berth, I would say 6 feet- or effectively 6 feet, since you have to leave some space between your head and the bulkhead.

Unless of course you are on the aisle berths, which I believe are a little shorter).

The others are just long enough for my feet not to dangle over the end :-)

Cheers

For a tall person the side berths are very uncomfortable.

Side berths are longer than lower berths and only 1cm shorter than upper berths, read on.

Upper berth = 188cm long, 64cm wide.
Lower berth = 185cm long, 67cm wide.

Side Upper berth = 187cm long, 54cm wide.
Side Lower berth = 187cm long, 55.5cm wide.

Now, before anyone tried to shoot me, I know that it seems wrong that a side berth is longer than a lower berth, I double checked, and it is, so bear in mind the following when choosing a berth: -

1, I measured 'usable space', and not the length of the actual matrass, I done this because.....it makes more sense to measure the usable space, for example, if there is a 3cm gap between the matrass and the partition wall (length ways), I added the 3cms because the gap wouldn't prevent sleep and would make the berth seem wider.

2, the length of a side berth is absolute, and is from partition wall to partition wall, so wilst 187cms seems like a very long berth, remember, you're taller when your toes are stretched, then remember to leave room for your head, nobody likes to sleep with their head pushed against something hard, the normal upper and lower berths (not side berths) allow you to stretch your toes and have them dangling over the end of the berth if need be.

Other measurements.

Matrass is a minimum 9cm thick.

Upper berth is a minimum of 77cms from the cealing.

Lower berth is 83cms below the upper berth and 53cms above the floor.

There is a gap of 50cms between opposite lower/upper berths (the space between them.)

Side upper berths are a minimum of 64cms from the cealing.

Side Lower berth is 91cms below the Side upper berth and 53cms above the floor.

ok then - what's the composition of the metal used for the frame of the upper berth, how many people made it, and what were their names!

OMG.....that pretty much answers everything you ever wanted to know about anything to do with the measurement of the sleeping berths....

I am astounded, and bow before greatness.....

(at the same time, I can just imagine someone lying in the upper side berth pulling on a measuring tape as they a settling down, and getting few strange looks...)

There's a few fellas at the IRFCA who could tell you every single engine that's pulled a particular carriage, I try to stick to useful info though.

I did get a few strange looks, I got the measurements of all classes, and took photos, it was a good way to pass time when I got bored on my last trip.
