Hello - After a bicycle trip in Rajasthan with friends 2 of us plus 2 bicycles need to travel back from Udaipur to Delhi. I was thinking of booking 4 people (2 of us plus mr & mrs bicycle!) so hopefully we will get a 4 berth cabin and can have our bikes with us. Will this work?

The friends we are cycling with have warned us that putting bicycles in the luggage car isn't 100% reliable - ie damage etc.

Do you think think the guard will be ok with us swiftly hopping on the train with our bicycles and getting into out 4 berth cabin - the bikes could either be wheeled in or carried in - in 'flight bags'.

Thoughts please....
Thanks
Mike

No, you cannot block berths by booking them. If there isn't a person in the berth, it can (will) be reassigned.

How can it be reassigned before we get on the train - as we have 4 places booked?

What's the point of reassigning once we are on the train - as everyone else will have allocated cabins?

Thanks
Michael

The TTE (Travelling Ticket Examiner) will not allow it.

If one carries a trunk or a suitcase which has a measurement of 100cmsx 60cmsx25cms (length, breadth and height) then it can be carried along with the passenger only. If the luggage is bigger than this size, then it should be booked earlier before boarding the train and it should be carried separately in a brake van in a different compartment.

Ok - thanks.

How do I book the bicycle ?

And when does it need to be delivered to the station?

Thank you.

The luggage which needs to be carried in the Break Van does not need a prior booking. All that needs to be done is to arrive at the station much in advance of the departure time of the train which is supposed to carry the luggage and book your luggage in the Break Van. The booking can be done at the luggage office which is located near the train platform. It is a must that you should be traveling by that particular train and your ticket would act as proof of travel. It is also advisable that you are present in person at the Break Van when the loading and unloading of your luggage takes place. This would help avoid the occurrence of missing luggage.
