Tried to book ticket today from Udaipur to Delhi 2964 on 1st or 2nd Feb.

1st Feb already w/listed in 1 A and 2A
1A WL on 2nd

Why might this be plenty of seats all round these dates?

Wow, I see what you mean, 3A as well, However, I doubt it's a holiday as there hasn't been a single ticket sold in Sleeper Class for the 1st or the 2nd.

Maybe a tour company has booked all the berths?????

By the way, a new route from Udaipur to Delhi may be operational by February (I say may, to be honest I haven't got a clue when the line will be opened).

The new line goes on the route of the old Chetak Express, Udaipur-Chittaurgarh-Ajmer then Phulera-Ringus-Rewari-Delhi.

The Phulera-Ringus-Rewari metre gauge section is being converted to broad gauge and a new train (or perhaps 2964) will then run to Delhi via this route.

I have just booked 3 berths in 2A for second Feb .. will keep eye on it .. was actually hoping for 1AC on this trip hence advance booking as it will be our last train trip in India on this trip.

Ref the new line - perhaps others know something we dont and 1 Feb is the inaugural trip and the 2964 is the train hence the bookings .. --- this is pure speculation though !

Dear Wabat/Steven,

2981/2982 Chetak Express had been planned between Delhi S.Rohilla and Udaipur WHICH SKIPS JAIPUR!!!!
....
This train runs between Rewari and Phulera via Ringus once the MG to BG Conversion gets completed; and the Section is commissioned for passenger traffic.

Thank you VSP - any idea when it might be up and running .. i realise like asking how long is piece of string...

I decided to do booking for Mahoba Agra - Jan.. not holding out for Khajarhoo station to open.

The Rewari-Ringus-Phulera MG Section had been closed long back.
It should get opened, probably, before the next Time-table comes into force, that is, 30.6.2009.:-)
