Yummy indian food

What is your favourite Indian food or dish? Where was the first time you had it?
Mine has to be the good old Thali. AARGH! I would kill to eat that now. As soon as I recieved it in a small restaurant and watched others eating it around me I was intrigued and HOOKED!. I just love the way that you can control how it tastes!. And you can top up until you pop!. yum

shahi paneer... yummmm !!! i ate it all over the golden triangle (dehli-jaipur-agra) while it's basically paneer in a nice creamy sauce, everyones' sauce is just a little different. some have nuts. some have sultans. some have both !!

the other thing i tried all over was garlic naan. even this is prepared in such a wonderfully different way in different places. it even differs in the same restaurant depending on the chef. my favorite was in a hotel in madurai. the chef thinnly sliced the garlic and layered it all over the top of the naan. the slices were so delicate, like tiny fingernail clippings. (i know, not exactly an appealing comparison, but it was so good this way!! )

now i'm craving indian food. wish there was a restaurant that was local to me.

Ed,

I have a feeling that I can easily reach escape velocity with that much limca in a sitting.

Haleem: Medina at Hyderabad is the best... thought most places in old Hyderabad will be able to offer you a decent version around Ramadan

Nehari: The best I have had is at Lucknow... my hometown. Kareem's in the interiors of old Lucknow serves it with Baked Kulcha's... you need to eat it to believe it..

Sheermal: Sheermals, in my opinion best enjoyed with Galawat Kebabs... you will find these in Lucknow, Delhi and Hyderabad.

Lucknow is a foodie's paradise... and this thread has made me feel like going back there !!
