I really like Udaipur. One of my favorite places there was something called "Marrys place" or something like that... Problem was they had the sign saying "Every night at eight is "Occtepussy" Night!" (yeah the James Bond movie recorded in Udaipur).

Nothing really bad (apart from the cheese and chocolate spread that my landlady used to make me for packed lunch when i was teaching, but that's another story!), just the usual getting ill story.
my motto is NEVER EVER let your guard down when it comes to ordering possibly dodgy food! we thought we'd be ok eating the salad that came with a middle eastern thali in varanasi, as it was a well respected backpacker haunt, but 3 weeks later and i was still not well |

Taste of India, Jogiwara Road, McLeod Ganj
It should really be called taste of passable Indian Buffet food from Midwestern United States. When MixVeg doesn't have flavor there is a problem. |

The worst food, I ever had was at a "dhaba" in Punjab. Two friends and I were down with a severe stomach infection, the next day.
The worst experience was at the Hotel Abad Atrium, Cochin, where I found a baby cockroach in the salad. ![]() |

Long over due stop at road side dhaba en route to Srinagar , many years ago : half of the passengers hits the bushes , other half goes for the two long tables. Tin plates thrown out , first dhaba wallah slops bhat mainly on plates. Enter dhaba wallah # 2 , a huge fellow with matching size rice pot , from which he serves one fistful of rice to each plate. Literally.

Gosh, I love pizza but never once had the guts to order it in India! Yes, call me chicken if you wish, hahaha!
My worst meal was in Kerala. My husband and I were staying at a little cabin "resort" in Kumarakom that had a little restaurant. I forgot what we ordered probably because each of us only had one bite of whatever it was. We are both veg so it must have been some rice, dal and subji. The food was tasteless and not heated through. Normally, we would have made a fuss about it but were too tired to deal with it. We ended up riding over to a Taj resort a couple miles away and had a great meal. The only meal that didn't agree with my internal workings was a Chinese dinner at Zen in Connaught Circus, Delhi. The food tasted okay but maybe the oil was too much for our systems. The problem showed up the next morning but after one dose of Immodium, I was fine for the rest of the day. I guess I have gotten of easy so far compared to some of the other horror stories here!! |

Ginger Hotel Bangalore - Not So Good...
My husband and I lived at the Ginger Hotel in Bangalore for about 5 months while our apartment was being finished. The hotel's buffet was horrible, some of the worst food (Indian and continental) that I have had - but I haven't ever been served rotten food, I think that would be horrible.
We have had some cockroaches plague our meals here in Bangalore, we actually found one in our mushroom soup from Domino's Pizza - and a very large crispy one made it onto our plate when we ordered some tandoori chicken from one of the local restaurants...gross to find in our meals but don't really qualify as 'worst' meal. I read a few posts where people fell ill after eating potatoes - I generally don't eat potato while out and about because of that reason...I was warned that potatoes are actually very easy to serve rotten because the spices used will mask the fact that they are bad... |

Jaggery and palm juice were prob the worst tasting things i ever tried while in India. Now maybe if the palm juice had been fermented for a few weeks it would have been a different story......
