Every person has the right to choose to eat meat or not for any reason they want. A restrantuer who simply picks the visible meat out of a dish prepared with animal fat or stock is not respecting his customer's decision about what he or she has choosen to eat. That kind of respect is important also.

I agree that if this happenned in INDIA, the restaurant was being worse than callous(because there are vegetarians there , and eeryone is familiar with what their needs are), but In the US..or in China..or in Germany, where they don't understand the concept of a vegetarian too well(or in the Case of the US, there are many stripes of vegetarians - some are dairy forbidden vegan and some are ovo- lacto- piscine- vegetarians) , I think sometimes it's legetimate that restauranters are confused/ casual about what they serve, and it's very much the eater that needs to look carefully.

Having said this , of course, if a restaurant says "vegetarian" on it's menu, then the dish better have no meat product in it. Mc donalds got into plenty of trouble for claiming it's fries were vegetarian when in reality there was beef extract on them, some years ago.

You mean you didn't gargle a bottle of Tom's of Maine, pucker-up like Lucy after being kissed by Snoopy, physically scrub that fibrous dental flossy crude off your tongue and then call Petplan(people for the ethical treatment of plants) to stage a sit-in at that vile eatery?? Good for you!

The better plan is to gargle with pure vodka and swallow...

(you won't become much cleaner after your horriffic experinece with potatoes-instead-of-lamb , but you'll forget.)

This is my #1 or 2 most favourite thing about India: they take vegetarianism seriously and it is a Veg Paradise. :-)

Here here !! Now, if only they would cook vegetables a little less so that you can actually identify them, and if only there were salads that were safe to eat, it would truly be Paradise
