The world's hottest chili...
Have any of you India expats seen the Bhut Jolokia, the world's hottest chili, in your local markets?

I requested my friend who'd gone to Guwahati for a weekend, to get this bhut jholokia. No luck. Came back with some ordinary variety. Didn't make me cry at all. It seems we'll have to scout the markets more thoroughly. . . .

http://www.frontalagritech.co.in/ I was told that it grows naturally all over Assam and is readily sold in the markets there. Could it be that your friend didn't talk to the right people? |

![]() One thing I learnt about chillies. Redder the not-better. The deep red ones are called "Kashmir" chillies out here and they are quite mild. Used as a colouring agent. The really pungent ones are more yellowish-brownish in colour, so they are "made-up" with their "red" brothers. Commercially available mirchi is a mixture of some red and some pungent... and the proportions are different in different places. The bhut jholokia look a nice orange colour. They could be expensive coz they will be used by chemical flavouring industrial plants to extract 98 to 99.99 pre cent pure capsaicin. One chap made 100 per cent pure capsaicin and he sold it for an astronomical price of 200 USD for a small bottle. Here's a video of a man tasting pure capsaicin This pure capsaicin called 16 million reserve was sold as a premium product costing some 200 US dollars for a tiny bottle. See tiny bottle here. How to make highly concentrated capsaicin extract at home. I think its really getting hot here... Is it the summer? . . |

I grew Habaneros in my greenhouse last year. Amazing little devils..
Gave a few away to people who claimed they liked hot peppers, no one asked for more... Those Bhut Jolokia look quite similar.Found a recipe for a hot sauce on the web that called for 12 Habaneros to produce a cup and a half of product. ... I chickened out and only used 4 peppers. The result is tasty but best used with a little caution. May try the full recipe this year if there's a good harvest. The recipe mentioned that the peppers were to be added AFTER cooking the sauce to get maximum effects. W22 |

im strange in that way.... i can take an unlimited amount of chillies in my food but i just cant get myself to bite on one..
, knowing fully well that even if i have the whole chillies in one go it's still not going to be half as bad as the amount which is in my food |
