Maya sweet store and vegie food - its in Cleveland St where all the other indian places are, don't know the number though - down the Centennial Park end between Crown and Bourke.

Also try the Pakistani - Faheem's fast food - on Enmore Rd just up from the Enmore theatre, always full of Pakistani taxi drivers - great saag, but I find a lot of it way too hot for me.

The only other good Indian I have had is Malabar in Darlinghurst - although its much more upmarket than the other 2...

Of course I haven't had the REAL Indian food to compare them with then - but I do know the Chefs and owners are definitely Indian/Pakistani.

Oooh, we might have to take a road trip south of the Metro then! There are I believe 28 Indian restaurants in the Minneapolis/St. Paul/suburbs, and I've tried 3 myself LOL....we pretty much cook our own Indian food at home, but there are some good restaurants here.

Kabob & Curry in Maple Grove, Bombay Bistro in Minneapolis, and Chutney Grill in Northeast Minneapolis <--- my personal favorite. All 3 have great Chai and fabulous Naan, but Chutney specializes in North Indian cuisine which is my preference. I tried Goat Curry the last time we were there I was iffy on the idea at first but after one taste I was sold It's a small friendly restaurant where Sanjay, the owner/chef comes and greets you personally. Plus, they're really reasonably priced and play Bollywood movies in the dining room.

I really like Faheems on Enmore Road, which is my local.
I also like dosas from Masala House also on Enmore Road (that's all I have there)
Guzzle Tandoori on King Street is pretty authentic as well.

I like Faheems too - although it is sometimes SO hot as to be unbearable... Have you tried any of the places in Harris Park - they mentioned one in the Herald a couple of weeks ago and we were thinking of going out there to try... it wasn't that cheap though.

My favourite? If ever in London, than try The Star Of India on Old Brompton Road. It is one of the longest owned family Indian restaurant in the UK (in same family's hand for over 50 years), in fact I believe the late Mr Mahammad opened third Indian restaurant in the UK.

It's now run by TV Chef and entertainer Reza Mahammad (Delhi Belly, Place in France, Saturday Kitchen, Staurday Cooks and so on and on...)

Food? It's evolved.. Great Indian flavours, but amazing menu that include Duck, Venison, superb chicken dishes.. It's top end of Indian in the UK, but well worth the price..

Okay, I know, I sound like a PR person for this restaurant, but I have nothing to do with it apart from I am regular..

Yes I know what you mean about Faheems.
Having just recently moved work location out to Parramatta, I have had the pleasure of trying a few Indian places out that way. Harris Park is supposed to be full of them, I think there's one called Bilou's which is supposed to be good, will check it out soon.

There's a small eethuis / diner in Amsterdam called Humrah and another a bit more upmarket called 'The Roti Room'.

Most places within the city centre are not that real.

There's one place on Liedsplein called Bollywood cafe. The menu has columns called Akshay Kumar menu, Bachchan menu etc. And yes they run Indian song-and-dance-in-wet-saris all day long!

Via Milano , what can I say ? The food is like nothing you have ever tasted in Bangalore.
The partners are Paulo, ( Italian) he is the chef and insists on only the BEST ingredients, Carl and Roger , the MOST friendly people who will always welcome you. All three are the owners / partners.
If you want to impress your girlfriend / future mother-in-law / boss , take them here. The service is sooo good without being subservient. European polite. The owners all have many, many years in 5*+ hotels across the middle east , and it shows. They train their staff on a daily basis about the finer points of service. The food is to ’Die For" try the baby chicken with Palma ham ( imported from Italy).
If you think you have tasted Pizza, you haven’t until you eat Pizza here,( it is hand-made, and I think even the cheese and black olives are imported!) Do not eat a big main course because the deserts are out of this world!! Not only the taste but even the presentation is beyond what the Taj or Leela could even dream of doing.
I LOVE the seating, normal tables or if you are feeling little amorous, white leather sofas.
The music is great, soft jazz, lounge, and never too loud to stop conversation.
If you like a drinky ( I Know I do!) the selection of wines is amazing and growing all the time , ask Carl and he will recommend THE perfect wine to accompany your meal, or some really good imported whiskeys , gins ( London Gordons Dry Gin) and even American, Jack Daniels and Jim Beam.
Be prepared for something really different and BETTER.
I am running out of superlatives for Via Milano, try it once and you will become like me, ADDICTED.
A truly wonderful place to eat , relax and enjoy.

For those who like 'hot'(to taste) Indian dishes and are in the London area, a place not-to-be-missed is the 'Mirch Masala' group of restaurants. They are in Norbury, Tooting, Croydon, Aldgate and Southall and specialise in 'deggi' Lahori dishes.

A joyous and unlikely discovery: Atif store on the Frimley Road, Camberley, Surrey.

Fresh Pakistani honey mangoes, a good range of Gits instant mixes (eg for dosas), frozen masala dosas, and a good range of spices.

Even better - my cycle to work for the next 3 weeks takes me right past the front door.

Guess who will be living on fresh mango lassis and dosas for the next 3 weeks!

In London's Southall : Rita's for a fantastic Biryani. Also in Southall, all the spices you need to make it yourself!

In Paris: the Passage Brady (10th), for buying the ingredients, or - even better - the "Cash & Carry" at 15, rue du Cail, in the 19th. For a restaurant, "Chola" on the rue des Filles du Calvaire, 3rd arrondissement.

And, last but by no means least, in Chania (Crete) : the only one in town : the Indian restaurant in Platanias, situated just past the bridge as you enter the village. Can't remember its name.

I am so excited!! I can tell some one about the Banana Leaf in Lexington,ky-US. It was fabulous!!! I had the masala dosa w/potatoes, the first I had eaten since coming back from India last fall. Banana Leaf is South Indian, and everywhere I had been was northern, good but not the same. If anyone reading this is ever in that area I recommend it!

There's a fantastic little place in Cardiff (Wales) which serves Gujarati vegetarian food, the thali’s are amazing, best I've eaten outside India and almost as cheap!
