The Best Curry in the World

The Guardian gives the nod to Karim's as the best curry on Earth. Mumbai street kebabs and Delhi's Sagar Ratna also get a mention as some of the 50 Best Foods in the World.

What, no tandoori barracuda, jackfruit curry, souvlaki, grilled lobster, cariboo steaks, momos, teriyaki salmon, Maddur vadas, uttapam, chili, fois gras en croute, kharichari or back bacon on a bun? Then again, you should see the Guardian's list of 100 best rock albums - those guys don't get out much.

Is the British use of the word 'curry' a catchall for Indian cuisine or does it refer to a specific spice combination & associated heat quotient that approaches the norm found in British - Indian restaurants. Or is it a bit of both?

all weather word for anything not bland or sweet, I daresay.

Watching some chap olivier or someone who won a gong for making school food better, make coconut rice, I was agog to see him deseed two small chillies. He went on to explain that it will reduce the spiciness of the rice.

bleh.

This karim's thing is certainly overhyped..If I am not mistaken its the same guy who has an outlet near jama masjid..They boast of being the chefs for the moughals..I had chicken curry there and I was sorely disappointed..High time the guardian guys stop having their parameters biased towards reputation..
Reputation doesnt make the best curry..

...no feijoada, no pandi khari, no fried Spam & eggs & chips & Guinness, no wild blueberry pancakes with maple syrup, no Montreal bagels with a schmear, no Scotch eggs, no fresh-baked ragi bread with amlet, no boneless goat rotis, no Tibetan-style sukiyaki, no fried haggis with black pudding, no grilled sweetbreads washed down with Carmenere, not even a g-d Sacher or Schwartzwald torte - waddya expect from a country where the national dish is dodgy sausage with a side of soggy taters washed down with warm watered beer?
