U-LIKE RESTAURANT
For a cheap and plentiful meal of Tandoori Chicken do check out a place in Paharganj called U-LIKE RESTAURANT. Locals claim it's one of the best in the area. I've had better, but it was good and inexpensive and a whole lotta chicken, plus it's not a tourist hangout. U-LIKE RESTAURANT The Chicken Specialist 3083 Rajguru Road, Chuna Mandi Paharganj, New Delhi 3550320-3615522 To get to U-Like go to the end of Main Bazaar (going in the direction away from the railway station) towards the Hotel Metropolis. The road on the right is Rajguru Road. Walk up Rajguru Road four or five blocks and it's on the right hand side. Alternatively you could ask anyone directions because most people in and around the area know of it. Good Eats Mike Last edited by indiamike : May 22nd, 2002 at 01:43. |

Indian food in Paharganj
I've made a note of this one Mike. Indian food is not the easiest thing to find around Paharganj. There are many cafes catering for the backpacker market but I guess most of the locals and shoppers eat at home.
You mentioned the Metropolis. We found the Indian food there pretty good if not great and it's one of the few places you can also have a cold beer. (On the roof if it's summer). With Delhi sizzling at the moment another good place around Connaught Place for a cold beer is the bar at Nirula's (just around the corner from their ice cream parlour). Good buffet meals upstairs also. The United Coffee House on the inner circle does food and draught beer and is a great place to relax for an hour or so between shopping, re-confirming air tickets, whatever. A word of caution though to anyone who is in Delhi at the moment- a lot of alcohol in 40+C temps is not a good idea. BTW I think the best tandoori chicken we have had in India was just across the road from Chandigarh bus station. |

Get someone to give you directions to the Original Chick-Fish for the best mutton, chicken and fish fry in Delhi, with the possible exception of the spicy chicken at that place just down from the Jama Masjid in Old Delhi, around the corner from the place where all the big knobs go for hundred-year-old korma.
