Taking wine into restaurants
It seems like alot of restaurants in India do not serve wine. If that is the case would it be acceptable to bring your own wine with you?

Restaurants in India in order to serve liquor need a liquor license. If they do not have one then officially one cant consume liquor on the premises and if they do then you can only have liquor you buy there. This applies to cities like Delhi and Mumbai. Many restaurants in smaller cities and in tourist destinations for instance Manali etc. dont have a problem with you getting your own drinks.

If you are in the city then any decent restaurant will serve wine.
In case you have a particular preference for wine and you think it might not be available then you could carry your wine with you. However you need to first check with the waiters if you could drink the wine you brought. Most of them allow you to drink the wine you brought however they will charge you extra money (called cockage charges). Last time I had carried a bottle of Champagne and the restaurant told me I could drink provided I was willing to pay them Rs. 350/- for a bottle as cockage charges which I thought was pretty high. So I didnt drink the champagne instead had the in-house wine. Terry

It would be best if you called the restaurant and asked. We can speculate to all we want here, and it would be meaningless -- whether you can do it or not will depend on the restaurant you choose. Heck, even in the US, each restairant has theiir own policy about customers bringing their own wine.
