The best food should be a well balanced blend of flavours which should'nt result in having to reach for the water.
If it is too intense try adding yogurt,,,,,,,,,,,

Drink the water!

Worst thing that can happen is more trips to the toilet.

I reead somewhere that water does not help. Supposedly, eating something high in fat (like ice cream) is your best bet.

Have a spoon of curd, whenever you think you handle the burning sensation in your mouth.

Cucumber, best bet for a hot mouth, cucumber and yoghurt mix that comes with many meals, it has a purpose. If water is the only option, just hold a small amount in the mouth until the heat goes, repeat a few times if required, just swallowing water does little good except as Nick said in excessive toilet trips.
