Random food you miss
Since you've been in India, has anyone else discovered that they miss really random western food items that they would never particularly eat in the UK/US/wherever?
Mine is Cheesecake - would never think of ordering it in the UK, but whenever I see it in a cafe here I have to order it. |

Maybe because the choice is so limited here in terms of western food, you are forced to choose items that you would't normaly consider back home, where you have your favorite items available.
I find that western food items in India are heavily tilted towards the British and American type of food, so I enjoy sampling those, as they are not widely available in my home country: those biscuit-like cookies, the fruit pies, and those weird dry-fruit "Christmas cakes" (British, I think). But I'm deviating from the topic ![]() |

I see you're from Romania - don't know much about Romanian cuisine myself, but I imagine its rather different from over here!
It's definately western deserts and cakes I crave the most - every weekend I somehow find myself in Mocha up in Nungambakkam cradling a cup of coffee and a brownie. Bizarre as I'm normally a really healthy eater!! |

First of all....I love Indian food above all others. My list goes:
1. Indian- especially North Indian 2. Italian 3. Chinese But still, after eating exlusively Indian food for the last two months, recently I've started craving... A west coast club: Turkey, Ham, Onion, Lettuce, Tomato, Mayo, on Cinnamon Raisin Bread... mmmm With some french fries and a good micro-brewed beer. Reminds me of University.

East european dish with pork and cabbage. -Ploughman's lunch, UK, but I think the ale and the lake district had something to do with this. |

Kellogs cereals are available, so are some imported ones, but the prices are high.
Broccoli is available sometimes here. |

Nick,
Where is broccoli available in India? Just in Chennai or have you seen it elsewhere? |

Brocolli is usually grown on a large scale in and around Delhi esp during the winters. Brocolli is a suggested option for those farmers who do not find cauliflowers remunerative enough.
In summers, though Brocolli is a bit more hard to find ! Apparently cold storage facilities for grocery vegetables had not taken off massively in India during the 90s. But with chains like Reliance & Walmart opening grocery stores in major INdian cities, I believe brocolli/c.flower would be available all year round easily. |
